Just curious for those who have been TTC for a few months...
When will you think about seeing an RE? I've heard that you should wait a year before some will see you. Just trying to get a sense of what's the norm and when I should start to look into this...

Re: Just curious for those who have been TTC for a few months...
I TTC'ed for 2+ years and was researching RE's to go to when I got my BFP. I'm not the norm, I know lol.
ETA: I hear if you are under 30 or 35, it's after a year. Over and it's 6 months. I was just too scared.

Just curious for those who have been TTC for a few months...
I don't believe that there is 1 answer for everyone.... I listened to my body; what I felt and made an appointment with my reg OBGYN and let him guide me!
Ive been a patient there over 9 years, always went for my reg exams and my Dr delivered both of my children. He was very supportive and along with me believes there are some issues- more than just "bad luck/bad timing"- had he said give it more time.... I would've agreed!
At the very least having a consult with your OBGYN can only make you feel better....

Re: Just curious for those who have been TTC for a few months...
I went to an RE after 4 months of being on metformin (prescribed by my Ob/Gyn) with no results. I wasn't getting my period on my own or ovulating (I have PCOS).
I called to double check with my insurance if there was a waiting period to see a RE and they said no. You should call and see.
If you feel like something is wrong then go with your instincts.

This is a new OBGYN for me...and I really don't have any history that would make me think there's a problem. I've just been kind of naive thinking that getting pregnant would have been easier.

I waited a little over a year. I don't think going any sooner would have helped but who knows. You really just have to do what you think is right.

Re: Just curious for those who have been TTC for a few months...
Generally they tell you a year but it depends on your age and if you have any signs of problems. OB may recommend you going sooner.
But in general health insurance won't cover it unless you've been trying a year or you are sent by your OB. Not that they can prove it, but they do ask you.
What brought me to the RE was when my OB told me she wanted to take out my fibroid. I wanted an RE's opinion before it came out. Glad I did that because he ended up doing the surgery and he was amazing. Of course I am still not pregnant, so I am back to visiting him, unfortunately.

It can take up to a year for the 'average' couple under 35 to get pregnant. yes, some happen right away, but some don't.
if it would ease your mind, go see your ob/gyn and see what they say. Typically, they won't recommend going to an RE until you've been trying for a year or if you're over 35, 6 months (assuming everything else is 'normal')

My first OB referred me to an RE after my chem (1 MC 1 chem) but I think it was mainly to get me off their backs. I changed OB's and my new OB thinks all will be OK next time around. So does my acupuncturist.

Just curious for those who have been TTC for a few months...
my OB wouldnt send me to an RE or for testing until we were ttc for a year. i was healthy, no prior problems and under 35. I believe if you are over 35 or have had issues they may send you sooner

Just curious for those who have been TTC for a few months...
I just went this month after 13 months (14 cycles) of trying... I wanted to give it our best shot on our own.

Just curious for those who have been TTC for a few months...
We've been trying for 10 months. My OB actually told me to try for 6 because of some health issues I had in the past but I plan on trying for a few more months first.

IDK I think it may be a personal choice, depending on other factors, how long you've been trying, age, health issues etc.

Re: Just curious for those who have been TTC for a few months...
Just as everyone else said the decision to go is different for everyone, depending on your prior health history, etc. DH and I waited for that 11 month mark just because I was getting anxiety about it all. We just recently finished all our testing and it all came back great except DH's motility is a little low which the doctor said is not a problem but is probably the reason why it is taking this long. I expressed my concern to him about us almost being at that 12 month mark and he reassured me that just because they say it takes an average couple up to 1 year its still just an average and it can be totally normal to give or take a few more months. He told me not to rush into running to an RE based on all our results and feels strongly about us trying on our own for a few more months. I am going to take his advice. Its all in how you feel, I kind of wish that I would've had these tests done sooner because now I see that all these months I was stressing myself over nothing. Its hard to read a statistic and compare yourself to others and when you don't fall within those bracets its easy to think that something must be wrong but don't jump to those conclusions prematurely because you'll drive yourself nuts! GL!

Just curious for those who have been TTC for a few months...
DH and i started TTC in AUgust of 2011. By February 2012, I had already made an appointment with the RE and I became pregnant in May 2012. However, I knew I had PCOS and that i might have trouble getting pregnant so I decided it was best to not wait since there was no point. I was 30/31 at the time
