Suddenly afraid of the bathtub
DS is 3 and for all of his 3 years, he has LOVED bathtime. Never once gave us a problem... in fact, he would sometimes get upset when it was time to come out.
Starting a few weeks ago, he has developed a sudden phobia of bugs. If one is too close to him, he screams and runs to us, demanding to be picked up. During a recent bath, he saw a few pieces of sock lint floating around in the bath water, thought they were bugs, and FLIPPED THE F*** OUT. He started screaming to come out, bright red face, tears and snot everywhere, kicking and would NOT sit back down. Ever since that day, he is deathly afraid of going in the tub and cries hysterically while we try to bathe him. There is no talking to him... his crying is too loud and he won't listen.
We've tried not filling up the tub and just using the handheld showerhead, we've tried new bath toys, we've tried bribes, we've tried putting his favorite TV show on, we've tried a different bathtub. Nothing is working. Bathtime has become a complete nightmare and DH and I are sweating and exhausted by the end of it. Mostly, I'm afraid that DS is going to fall and hurt himself in there because he kicks & screams and will not sit down. We have to literally hold him down to get any soap on him.
Has anyone dealt with this?? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Suddenly afraid of the bathtub
My son got scared of the tub suddenly. I bought bath paint, tablets that color the water, and a few other toys. That lured him back in.

Re: Suddenly afraid of the bathtub
Have you tried a shower? DD has become anti-bath at 2.5. I was alone with her one night and tried a shower since it was easier for me & she loved it!
Our bathtub has an adjustable head, so she dances as she gets wet, we wash her hair and body and then she gets rinsed and loves it.
It's made bath time in our household a happy one again, plus it helps that she thinks she a big girl now because of it.
