Gender Sway TTC Question

Hi Girls, I'm new to this board and have a question re: Swaying for a Girl. Of course, a healthy baby is the goal and I will be happy with either gender but I figure I'd do my best to try for a girl, since I already have a DS and this is likely our last baby.

The Shettles book & method says that when trying for a girl, you are supposed to BD 3-4 days in advance of ovulation. However, this makes TTC a difficult task and can take a long time.

Has anyone gotten pregnant 3-4 days before ovulation? Or is this goal unrealistic? I've read some sites that say that sperm can only live 3 days.

Thanks for any input!

Gender Sway TTC Question

To be honest I think it's all a myth and comes down to genes and science.

Gender Sway TTC Question

We bd'd 3 days before o'ing and I had ds (unplanned). We bd'd the day I o'd and I had dd. We weren't trying for either sex. I think you have a 50/50 chance either way.

Only thing that determines sex is the X or Y chromosome that your husband's sperm gives. Not many people realize this but the man completely determines the sex of the child. Women are XX, and therefore only can give an X chromosome. Men are XY and can give either. I guess just be extra nice to your husband and tell him to shoot you an X chromosome?!?! :)

Thank you for sharing! I know it's 50/50 but so many people believe the Shettles method that I'm curious to see how many people it actually was accurate for.

Gender Sway TTC Question

I read up on shettles method a bit, since a family friend swears by it... The theory is that "female" sperm are slow swimmers and "live" longest while male sperm are "fast" and "die" first.... So with that- having sex on the day you "O" would mean the male sperm would get their first, and having sex the day before you "O"- the men would die off and give those female swimmers a better chance to reach the egg...

There is also theory on how acidic or alkaline your "juices" are; and how different things you eat would control your bodies PH level...

I think there is truth in the theory, but I think its still a crap shoot.... Whose to say how many X or Y sperm your husband has????

My first month TTC; I did attempt the BDing before I o'd thing....ended up with a BFN and that was the last go at that! At this point I just so badly want to get preggo; I could care less of the baby's gender and wont pro-long it by messing around with when to/not to BD.... (and to be clear, before some get their panties in a bunch. I never "cared" necessarily about the baby's gender- a healthy baby was always my first priority....but having 2 boys, and knowing this will likely end with a tubal- it would be nice to have a daughter).

I am eating a lot more yogurt (which is suppose to make you more acidic- which supposedly "help" the girl swimmers); partly because I love yogurt and partly because hey- if it helps, why not? I'm not hurting anyone, and I'm eating a healthy lunch filled with probiotics (LOL).

If your not in a rush to get preggo and you wanna give it a whirl; I don't think there is any harm in it.... But nothing is full proof!

Re: Gender Sway TTC Question

Just crashing here... With my last girl I dtd 3 days before ovulation.. With my son it was the day of ovulation... I believe there is some truth to the science behind male sperm dying within 24 hours and female sperm last longer.. But who knows

Crashing too and this was true for me word for word. We dtd 2 days before O and had DD. With my DS, it was day of O.

We didn't plan it like that, it's just how the timing worked out but I do have one of each now.

Gender Sway TTC Question

According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine there is no association between the timing of sex relative to ovulation and gender. Take a look: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199512073332301#t=articleDiscussion

Re: Gender Sway TTC Question

I dont think there is any way to determine the gender.

We bd'd the same way when we conceived my first boy and my second daughter.

Gender Sway TTC Question

I was thinking of this post during my anatomy scan this morning--We are having a girl but we bd'd close to when I ovulated so in my experience timing did not have anything to do with gender.

Yes! I did with my DD. we weren't trying to get pregnant but not stopping it either, BUT that particular month we weren't gonna Chat Icon around the time I ovulated bc it was 9 months from our friends wedding that we were both in. I calculated I was about 4 days before O was due. My periods were super regular and I could always tell when I was O even though I wasn't tracking.

Sure enough I got pregnant, and since we only Chat Icon that one time 4 days before, I basically knew it would be a girl and I was right. I worked for a Dr at the time who had a son and daughter that he and his wife gender planned using this method.

Generally, the male sperm swim fast but die faster, the girl sperm swim slower but live longer.

This time we were Chat Icon every other day and I was still BFing so I don't know exactly when I O, so I'm not sure of what in having like I was last time.

ETa: I'm sure that this method isn't in any way a guarantee, just that it can sway the odds a little.
