Sick babies and Daycare

So for all y'all that have had your kids in daycare for a while... When does it get easier as it relates to being sick???

I mean are they always sick????

DS just had an ear infection... finished antibotics and spiked another fever 103 over the weekend. I can tell hes not feeling good.

Yucky nose... its yellow and thick.. just wants to be held. Not to mention he's teething HARDCORE..

Does it get better?? How did you know to take them to the dr? Not take them to daycare??? eta - obviously I know the rules of the daycare re: fevers and stuff... but Im talking about specifically when they dont have a high fever or anything that the daycare would say they MUST stay home. ( hope thats clear)

I'm feeling so lost and bad for my boy.Chat Icon Chat Icon

It gets better year 3. I would keep them home if they had a fever or vomiting.

It got better for us with DS 1 after the first year - it was a long one with stomach viruses, ear infections, random fever viruses and the chicken pox and then it slowed to a more manageable level.

I only keep my kids home if they are vomiting, have a fever or are really sluggish and not themselves (moreso for older DS).

By about 2 - 3. First two years DS had an ear infection from what felt like October to March/April.
For DS2 though he had a better tolerance and didn't get sick as much as DS1. Hang in there. Chat Icon

Re: Sick babies and Daycare

DS just started day care at the beginning of september and was sick about 2 times already. Ped said he would be sick at least 10 more times this year since he was never in day care before and has not built up his immune system yet. Im also a teacher and even children in my class that have never attended school before they get sick a lot. Usually the first year is the worst and then their immune system strengthens. Hang in there!

DS was sick from when he went in daycare at 5 months until he got tubes at 13 months. No joke, since then he has only had one fever and one ear infection. He's already 4! I think the first year of daycare is the worst and after that it gets better.
