Re: Did you see this about Toysrus
figures, I always thought it was nice that they offer a nice quiet private place for you to nurse. People will find a way to be offended by anything.

Re: Did you see this about Toysrus
That's terrible. I can't believe she was harrassed for breast feeding in a children's store. What they did to her was illegal.

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking if a nursing mom would like a private room. That's what Toys R Us is saying happened.

Re: Did you see this about Toysrus
Good for her!!
I work across the street from that place and Iam in there at least once a week. The people who work there have no idea what is going on and even if they have nursing rooms, I wouldn't be surprised if the employees didn't know that.
Nursing mothers need to breastfeed in public more and more. If we hide from it, how will it ever be accepted?
It really angers me that nursing mothers get so much slack! It is the most natural thing in the world. A 12 year old can walk around with her mini skirt up to there and alow cut shirt, but a mother feeding her child is asked to move or leave.
Its a sad world we live in

I don't believe them. The people there are clueless!
But if thats the case, I think the mother has a right to decline the offer. But since security was called- this obviously wasn't the case.
If I was almost done feeding Jordy, to pull her off to move downstairs to a basement would probably take longer than finishing feeding. According to the story, by the time security came- she was done feeding.

Re: Did you see this about Toysrus
The original article doesn't say security was called. I just read the NY Sun's edition. At least 5 different salespeople asked or suggested she to go to the private room. She claims security was called as well. Excessive in my opinion.
I guess it depends on the news source.

Re: Did you see this about Toysrus
Somewhere between the "she said" and the "they said", therein lies the truth
One thing I can personally attest to though, the staff there is clueless and can be very nasty. My secretary (the mom of a 3 year old) told me about this story and also shared her negative experiences about the staff there.
Oh well- unfortunately convenience wins over principal and I am on my way over to buy a high chair.

Re: Did you see this about Toysrus
IMO I think this woman is blowing this out of proportion. They have a private room to use which they asked her to use. Whats the big deal? Its not like they told her to leave the store. People will find anything to sue over.

It doesn't matter where she was feeding. We are allowed to BF in public in NYS. I think she may be doing it just for the principal of the matter.
ETA: I would be offended if someone asked me too, if I wanted to go to a private room I would have!

Re: Did you see this about Toysrus
I say good for her and I hope she creates some change. The employees were breaking the law. Looks like she had an older child, do you think the older child wants to get stuck in the "private room" while mom nurses or would the toddler want to be checking out the fun toys?

Re: Did you see this about Toysrus
GOT SOME SCOOP!!!
I just came back from Toys R Us and met the nicest employee EVER!
1- There is no private room. There are chairs near guest services where they gift wrap, but no private room
2- He says he has seen other employees tell customers that they have to leave if they are breastfeeding or that they have to go downstairs
3- Its all in the discretion of the employee. The employee I spoke to has a nursing wife and says that he will approach nursing women and ask if they will be more comfortable sitting downstairs on a chair, but there is no official rule or policy on this.

Re: Did you see this about Toysrus
I think she is overreacting somewhat. And I still think a BF mom can you some discretion about where she chooses to BF (even though she can legally anywhere) and not do so in the middle of the store.
A BF mom plopped down in the baby food aisle at Target a few weeks ago with her toddler running around. With her on the floor, her cart, no one else could even get by that end of the aisle.
I BF for a few months and I would never have done that. JMO

I dunno I'm on the fence here. I think that we as mothers who choose to breastfeed also have a responsibility to be discreet when in public. I for one didn't mind going to a private room..it was also more calming for my son than lets say..in the middle of a busy store.
Speaking of discreet..how would you all feel if she just whipped it out and started feeding while being interview on TV by Fox..would that be acceptable? or in poor taste?

Yes we do have a right to nurse anywhere! I personally am discreet when I nurse out, usually in a sling where you cannot see God forbid my nipple I am tired of people trying to shoe us away like we are doing something wrong

Re: Did you see this about Toysrus
I would have more than appreciative to have a quiet/private place to breastfeed. I know that it is natural but, some people are very uncomfortable with breastfeeding - not saying I agree (I breastfed myself)-not myself but my child.
I'm always weary of stories like this because people are always looking for a quick buck.
