I feel like I can't win
DS will be 4 months next week. 2 weeks ago we stopped swaddling him and he did great. Just to try the next day I put him in his crib drowsy and he fell asleep on his own... Which was monumental for him since he was only napping in his bouncer, swaddled, vibration on and me holding his pacifier in or in the car/stroller. We then tried putting him in at night awake and again he feel asleep on his own. That went on for about a week. Yesterday we were in the car or stroller all day so no naps in the crib. Today we went out during his first nap. Second nap I put him down and he cried for 20 mins. I went up during to settle him with no luck, finally I picked him up and rocked him for 5 mins he feel asleep and I transferred him to crib, woke up 20 mins later, put himself back to sleep for another 15 mins. Then he refused to take another nap again... Basically slept 35 mins in 6 hours. We just put him down after he feel asleep having his bottle.
I thought I had finally accomplished something with him and I was so relieved that it would be so easy for his daycare and babysitter to put him down for naps when I go back to work in 2 weeks. I feel like it's always more steps backwards then forward.
He's been extra gassy the past few days and drooling like crazy.
Please tell me what I'm missing or doing wrong

He's 4m old. You did nothing wrong. My dd is 4.5 and she won't nap for us in her crib or sleep in it at all. Daycare she sleeps fine with no problems. Don't stress it. He'll get it eventually.

you are doing fine!! dd was a nightmare at that age and i went back to work when she was 3 months. she was very colicky though. i just went with her cues and when she looked tired i tried to get her to nap, whether it was in the car, in the swing, etc. it gets better, hang in there

Re: I feel like I can't win
My DD is 4 months also. I think that the fact you got him to sleep unswaddled is great! Sometimes babies don't like too many changes at once. So if DS is sleeping unswaddled, why not let him continue to nap in the bouncer if he naps well in it? Then in a week, you could try the crib again. Just because it didn't work yesterday doesn't mean it's never going to work. Babies are great because it's like every day is brand new. If they had a bad day yesterday, they could have a great day today. And please don't worry about daycare yet. His schedule is going to change anyway once daycare starts. As long as you trust your providers, they will find a way for your DS to nap. This is their job and they are good at it! Good luck and try not to be so hard on yourself.

I feel like I can't win
Just an FYI... When DS was your son's age, he pretty much just napped in my arms. And for 25 minutes a pop each time. I would feed him his bottle then rock him to sleep in my arms and that was all we could do to get him any sleep and he was still a cranky mess all day. So your LO is doing better already. It is hard not to stress - I did the same thing. I still stress about so much at 12 months. It's all part of being a mom. He's still pretty little and should start taking naps better in his crib when he's a little older.

He's only 4 months. And even if he would nap regularly now it wil change 10 times before he is one.
