no eat list...Rice??
I was talking to my cousin about whats on the no eat list when your pregnant and she tells me that Rice was on her list. They dr said that it has high levels of arsenic in it so she shouldn't eat it.
Anyone else's OB tell them that also?

Re: no eat list...Rice??
My doc has never told me no rice. My MIL mentioned that to me, but my doc said it is not something I need to avoid.

Re: no eat list...Rice??
Sure as hell hope not. I love rice and have eaten a ton this pregnancy. I'm 34 weeks and so far so good (fingers crossed). I wouldn't worry.

I would have to say no. No one I have ever come across said "no rice."
The "do not eat list/do not do" is probably the most arbitrary part of pregnancy. Every single doctor will say something different. I don't even bother discussing it with other people because they will say the opposite. Follow what your own doc says or just do what you feel comfortable with

Re: no eat list...Rice??
I honestly think you would have to consume more rice than humanly possible to have any ill effects from arsenic. And think about some Asian countries where rice is a staple... They don't stop eating it while pregnant, and they have super long life expectancies!
Sounds like that Dr is a bit extreme.

Re: no eat list...Rice??
I don't see how it could already be on a no-eat list when the study just came out...
Very low levels found in rice - FDA

no eat list...Rice??
I have heard of this- Rice can have high levels of arsenic that are leached from the soil. Brown rice grown in the US has been reported to have the highest levels. My RE suggested that I limit my rice in take but did say not say it needed to be avoided completely. I am on a gluten free diet so I think she stressed it more bc may of the gluten free bread products are made with rice flour blends. There was a lot of news coverage about a year ago: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/arsenic-rice-report-finds-worrisome-levels/t/story?id=17267872
Apple juice is another product that has been reported to have high levels of arsneic. I think like everything else moderation is key.

Re: no eat list...Rice??
I never encountered that with each of my pregnancies. The only time I had to stay away from rice during my pregnancies was due to gestational diabetes (because it caused my sugar to skyrocket).
