Potty training overnight

DD is almost 3.5; she has been potty trained during the day since January. But overnight, she NEVER wakes up dry (she wears a pull-up overnight)

Any suggestions on how to train her overnight. we dont do liquids after dinner, and she pees before bed, so i really dont know what else to do.

help please!!!!

TIA

Potty training overnight

I followed the 3 Day Potty Training method with DS and when we threw out the diapers to start, we threw them all out. DS has been trained since mid-February and he's only had a few accidents at night since (mainly on nights he's been sick or we didn't hear him calling out to us to go to the bathroom) and has woken up dry every other night.

Have you spoken to the ped? Maybe they have ideas. Is she using the bathroom before she goes to sleep? Not drinking much an hour+ before bed? Have you tried just putting her in underwear at night instead -- maybe she is getting a false sense of security from having the diaper on and so she just goes instead of making an effort to go to the bathroom instead. Perhaps you can also try to wake her up an hour or so into bedtime and an hour or so before she wakes up in the morning to insist she goes to the bathroom so she sees it's OK to get up at night.

Good luck!!

Re: Potty training overnight

A hormone has to develop for children to stay dry overnight. In some children it develops pretty quickly, in other children it takes until they are 7 or 8.
Here is some information on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nocturnal_enuresis

Re: Potty training overnight

3 day potty training would say wake her at night. However I did the 3 day and honestly that was the only part I skipped. I still put pullups on her at night, as I wasn't waking her at night to go, no way. She started waking on her own at night to go in time. Then in a few mths, she just stopped waking up to go and never woke up wet either. I think her bladder just got used to the process i guess. I would give it more time, I think it will happen when her body is ready. Unless you want to wake her once a night......Chat Icon

This exactly. DS was day trained at 26 months, but he wore pull-ups for 4 months or so. I switched him to underwear at night when he woke up dry for 4/5 consecutive nights.
