Weaning Off Binkies
Hi ladies!
My twin boys turned 2 in June and I'm trying to wean them off their binkies. The transitions from crib to toddler beds and bottles to cups weren't bad, but I just feel that they rely too much on the binkies, especially at night. When we're out I usually take them from them and it's never a problem, but when they're playing at home, they always ask for them. Any ideas? I've heard some creative ones about going to Build-A-Bear...curious to hear if that worked for anyone. Thanks!

Re: Weaning Off Binkies
I have no personal experience with this, but a good friend of mine did a build a bear thing. She had her son take all his binkies in a ziploc bag to the store. Then , when it was time to stuff the bear, they put all the binkies inside the bear. He was able to cuddle the bear and feel all the binkies. She said it worked like a charm!

Thats a cute idea but seems a little mean. Its like there here but you cant have them. IDK, maybe its just me. Not like I have any better ideas lol. I just did it cold turkey but took me until she was 3 1/2. I waited too long and her bedtime was never the same.

I don't know if this is a bit severe, but my friend put a hole in the nipple of the pacifiers so her dd didn't get the suction sensation and after two days she lost interest in them.

Re: Weaning Off Binkies
I waited to 2.5 than I cut the tip off of the binky. I let her find it and when she put it in her mouth she said "it's broken". I told her that was because she was getting too big and than she threw them in the garbage. She only asked a few times for one but I kept reminding her that she was too big now and they were all broken.
I tried to take it away right before her 2nd birthday ad it was nightmare. We tried the binky fairy but she screamed hysterical and kept making herself throw up.

I've heard this works. How did naps and bedtime go? I just took them away cold turkey and it's not going too well.

I did this. I don't know that it went much better than cold turkey, other than the fact that DS got mad at the binkie instead of me LOL. It took about 3 days of rough naps and bedtime, but he was fine after. I gave a little extra snuggle time those first few days to help him calm down.
Good luck!

Re: Weaning Off Binkies
I have been wanting DD to get rid of her binky too! Right now she only uses it to sleep, but when DH is around he gives it to her the second she starts whining. I have heard people say they cut the tip off, I am just curious if your LO started to bite the tip? I am worried she might bite on it and swallow some of it.
