TMI - Toddler Poop Issues
My DS is 15m and recently was sick. 2 weeks ago he had a fever followed by diarrhea for a few days. His poop hasn't gone back to normal yet. It's not diarrhea but it's very soft and he's pooping a LOT. Averaging 5-6 times a day and sometimes they are blow outs. On top of that he has a horrible diaper rash that we are trying to get under control. I took him to the Dr last night and the rash isn't yeast or bacterial, just a bad rash. She said if the poop doesn't go back to normal in a week to come back.
Anyone ever experience something like this? Any idea what it could be? The other children in his daycare got the same virus but none of them seem to be having this issue and they are all back to normal. I'm trying to give him very plain foods now to see if that helps. He's in a lot of pain from the rash and I don't think it will get a chance to clear up until his poop is back to normal. I feel bad for the poor little guy

Re: TMI - Toddler Poop Issues
My DS is 16 mos and has been going a lot more than usual (4-6x a day sometimes) and now started getting a bad rash. I honestly think it's the teething that is causing a lot of this. He sometimes will get a very low fever also. We just keep changing him constantly, letting him air out as much as possible and making sure to dry the area really well and putting either the purple desitin or triple paste. It's awful to see them uncomfortable . I also will give him a sitz bath which seems to 'calm' the rash down also.

It could be related to teething as well - both of my boys didn't have diaper rash until they were about that age - getting in their eye teeth (which take forever!!!)

I agree w the probiotics suggestion. We use culturelle. I put half a straw in her juice or milk.

Thanks, everyone. I have been using a probiotic but it's in his water at daycare and he doesn't drink his water as much there as he does at home. Maybe I'll try putting it in his milk instead to make sure he takes it. He definitely is teething and yes the eye teeth are taking forever and a day!

DS just went through this but without the fever first.
He finally got back to normal this week but was like that for 3 weeks.

Re: TMI - Toddler Poop Issues
Whenever my kids get some kind of stomach bug, I have to cut dairy out of their diet for a week (even if their fever is gone) because it irritated their stomachs. Instead of cow's milk, I temporarily gave them soy.
