is 3 eggs too much for a toddler?
Ds would eat more if I let him. He is a big boy but not overweight at all. Mil said no way he should only have one or two. Help!

DS is 3 and a big boy (also not overweight)and I only give him one egg. I only eat one egg. I def think 3 eggs is too much for a toddler.
Is he only eating egg though? (although still think 3 is too many, maybe 2( I scramble DS' with cheese and give him toast with cream cheese.

you're not harming him. maybe try giving two egg whites with one egg. it will look the same but contain a lot less cholesterol

Some days my DD will scarf down 2 eggs and some days she will only eat one of the two I made her. I would give him 2 eggs and some fruit or yogurt.

This is what I was going to suggest. 3 egg yolks is a lot of cholesterol for anyone, let alone a toddler.
But really, you are not harming him, don't worry about that. Just don't give 3 eggs everyday and it's fine.

Re: is 3 eggs too much for a toddler?
DD will usually eat 1.5.
I scramble 3 and we split it.
I don't think 3 is "too" much for your kid. I don't know him. Do what you feel is best.
Sometimes DD is a piggy, sometimes she's not - they grow lke crazy at this age.
Pay no attention to the answers here and do what you feel is best.

I give him enough for him to be full. If he wanted 3 I would give it to him.

I wish my DD would eat like that! If she eats one bite of an egg it's a lot! I don't think 3 is necessarily bad- but maybe cut it down to 1 yolk.

I completely agree, the protein is most important! Just cut down the yolk.

You are not harming your child. My DS is big boy but not overweight & eats 3 turkey sausage links each am with English muffin. Dr said its fine. If they are hungry they will eat.
You could try the 2 egg.whites with 1 egg for cholesterol purposes.

Re: is 3 eggs too much for a toddler?
I asked my ped about this because DS (almost 4) started eating 2 eggs EVERY DAY and I was concerned about cholesterol. It's not a weight issue, as he is thin, but an overall healthy-heart concern. Ped said 2 eggs every day (14 per week) is too much- 4-5 per week, or 1 per day MAX. We stick to this and bulk it up with extra whites, which he said is fine. If he's not eating them every day, once in a while I will give him 2.

Re: is 3 eggs too much for a toddler?
Way too much cholesterol. One egg is 60 something % of dv for adults.

I think if it's once in a while, it's ok...sometimes DD has one good, solid meal a day, so if that were it, I wouldn't freak out...but maybe try the one egg and egg whites that others suggested if this is a favorite/common food

I agree the daily intake recommends no more than 2 eggs per day but the whites are fine...

My DD eats 2 scrambled eggs. She asks for more but i just tell her to eat her toast and fruit instead. My DH gave her 3 eggs one time because she asked for it but i think 3 is too much.

Re: is 3 eggs too much for a toddler?
I agree with the above in that I don't think that in terms of the amount of food its too much. It just might be too much in terms of cholesterol. Not a big deal, I would just make sure it is not an everyday occurrence.

Re: is 3 eggs too much for a toddler?
I think if he's eating eggs once or twice a week it's fine - but if he's eating 3 eggs every day, that may be a lot cholesterol - wise
What about what the others suggested to break it up with toast, fruit, yorgurt etc. so he's still full and satisfied, but not just on eggs ........

Don't kids under 2 need MORE cholesterol than adults? I thought they needed it for brain development, etc. Personally, I wouldn't restrict him from eating as many eggs as he wanted, as long as he is also getting sufficient other nutrients and food groups-- i.e. that his egg eating was not interfering in him getting his dairy, fruit, veg and grain servings. Way better than lots of other things he could be eating, IMO.

My ds has eaten 2 eggs, I won't let him eat more than that. I just give him something else to balance his diet

This is correct! My ped reminds me NOT to worry about cholesterol.
That being said, 3 every day is a bit much... But sure, DS has done it on occasion!

I don't know about anyone else, but 1 egg is just too little food. Sometimes depending on the egg size, I feel like 2 is a small amount too!

I have no idea! I make one egg and I split it 3 ways between my two dc and myself. My dc don't eat a lot.
