kids in Boston?

We are spending 2 nights (1.5 days) in Boston before venturing on to Maine.

My kids are 8, 6 and almost 2. We will do the Children's Museum.

What else? I want to walk part of the Freedom Trail (from Boston Common to Paul Revere's house) and they Fanueil Hall, but I don't think that will take the whole day?

any suggestions?

(We are planning on staying at a hotel near Boston Commons)

New England Aquarium is really impressive. Maybe about a 10-15 minute walk from Faneuil Hall. I would just check because last year it was undergoing renovations and the big tank in the middle - which is a big attraction - was closed. Even with the closures it could still be worth it, depending on your kids.

The Commons also has some kind of boat attraction. We were going to do them when I went with my mom and DS last year but it was raining.

If you go to Harvard Square there is a Curious George store there. (Your boys might be too big for that though.) There's also a ton of shops and restaurants nearby, and it's a nice area to walk around in. There was a fantastic coffee shop that I wish I remembered the name of.

The historical part of Faneuil Hall is very interesting - and I believe it's free too - but the shops and restaurant part is soooo crowded and touristy. If I had to name the worst tourist trap I've ever been to that might be it. There is no place to sit in the food court and it is just wall to wall people. After walking through a small portion of it I was ready to flee. I wouldn't spend too much time there with 3 kids.

HTH. I love Boston!

you can take a boat tour to one of the islands

you can take a ferry up to salem

I love the street performers in fenuil hall

the duck tours are lots of fun - you can grab one from the science museum or ptrudential center

the science museum would be nice for your older - they have an imax theater there too

the swan boats are in the public garden - they are a large paddle boat - if you read the book make way for the ducklings - there is a statue for them

the frog pond in boston common is like a 1 foot pool with a sprinkler and there is a playground right there

We went whale watching in Boston and it was amazing! We saw so many whales up close, your kids would probably love it.

Ok, figured it out via Google -

Crema Cafe in Cambridge was the coffee shop I referred to - yum!

Lucia's on Hanover street in the North End was great too.

DH and I met and lived in Boston for many years. Love it up there. We are going next week.

My list includes:
Boston Children's Museum
Museum of Science

Quincy Market
Copley Square
Harvard Square
Porter Square

I look forward to just taking a stroller walk along the Charles River. Will bring back lots of memories from college and grad school.

We are actually going next week and staying at the IL's house. Wish we could get a hotel but DH says MIL will be insulted. Unlike how I like my itinerary down, DH likes to wing it. We are hanging out with his family and friends so we have no concrete plans. It is what it is.

We may check out the Aquarium and Fanueil Hall and skip the Children's Museum in Boston.

Haven't been up to Boston since DS#2 was born. Hoping it isn't as hot next week as it is this week.

I have stayed there. THere is a nice family bar/restaurant right there called Joe's American Grill. Great food! Longwharf is a great place to stay with kids. Walk to the carousel, Fanueil hall, Quincy market, Aquarium, Duck Tour, an ice cream shop, etc. Great location! Oh and the hotel had a decent pool inside also.

The duck tours are supposed to be really great, i'd try that. I believe you need reservations in advance.

I have done it. It's fun. You can usually buy tickets that day for later in the day. Ask when you get there how likely it is to sell out.

The Harvard Natural History Museum is awesome. I also highly recommend the restaurant City Landing by the waterfront. The food was amazing and they had the best children's menu I have ever seen.
