Liberty Fence....ahhhhh!!! UPDATE 6/18/2013
After getting 5 estimates from 5 different fence companies, we finally decided on hiring LIBERTY FENCE in Elmont for the job. They gave us the best price, warrantied the workmanship / fence and seem very knowledgeable about the job. They were the last company to give us an estimate, so by the time we had them come over, I pretty much knew everything...LOL!
Anyway, we knew the job would take 4 to 5 weeks for completion (everyone else was also giving me the same time frame so I knew they were not BS me :) They were good at the beginning; by the first week they had our front yard and backyard stair railing up and the post for the driveway fence up, but I haven't seen them since then. This was back in April
I finally called them over 2 weeks ago (because I had not heard from them), it took them 2 days to get back to me and the lady set up an installation date for the end of June saying that the only thing they could put up was the PVC fence because they make it themselves and they are still waiting for the cedar and aluminum fence to arrive and it should take another three weeks or so for such to arrive. (Our order involves PVC, Cedar, and Aluminum fencing---big job). I said "Ok, but since you are telling me that it takes 3 weeks for the order to arrive, and it will be 4 weeks by the time you do the job, that means that everything should be done at once right?" She said " I am not sure" " I will get back to you before the job is to start". Sureeeeeeee!!!! Never heard from her again!
I called last week (Wednesday) to see what was going on. My information was taken and I was told that someone would get back to me by the end of the day. Their days must be a week long because today is Monday and I still have yet to hear from them. I called again this morning (8:30am), same situation, my information was taken...la,la, la> It is now 1:30 PM and I have yet to hear from them I will never recommend them to anyone. All I know is that they better do a good job.
Has anyone else had this experience with them? Any input on how to handle this is much appreciated
By the way, the following were the other fence companies I contacted....
Amendelas' (I think that is how is spelled ) ---- The guy that came to give me the estimate was late and very condenscending. I asked questions and instead of answering and explaining things to me, he would say "Oh, you don't want to do that!". He also took two long calls while giving me the estimate, when he knew that I had babies napping and I was on limited time. Oh! and they were the highest price by far.... (Liberty was 2,000 cheaper ) and he didn't want to leave a written estimate. Before he left, he told me to "put in a good word to my husband for him" Really????
Wood Kingdom---After calling three times (I should have know by then ) They finally sent someone to give me an estimate. The guys was very nice, but didn't seem to know much. He didn't have the price scale with him and left the estimate on a notebook piece of paper. When he left he told me someone called Brian who handled installation would call me back to give me the final price. Well, I never got a call back! I called them twice too To this day, I haven't heard back from them (since April)
Rose Fence---Called three times and finally called back after the third call / message. They cancelled one day and they guy who was supposed to come and give me the estimate the second time was over an hour late without calling me to let me know he was going to be late. I kept calling the company and letting them know that I could only do it while my babies were napping and I had not heard from the guy. The lady at the company kept saying...."he will be there in 10 minutes; he is on his way". Well, by the time he got to my home, my babies were waking up from their nap and I told him to forget it. Anyway, my neighbor had work done by them 3 years ago (which I didn't know at the time), and his fence is already falling apart
Charlies Fence--The guy didn't even bother to send someone to my home for an estimate, but said that he could see my property line with some village access they have online to see the survey. He kept asking me questions about my property line. I said I didn't know much and I had the survey in my hand. He quoted me the same price as Libery Fence. If you don't even bother to send someone to measure and look at what you have to do, then you don't have my job Really???
North Shore Fence---by far the nicest guy and very thorough, but their price was astronomical almost twice as much as Liberty and about 3,000 more than the rest. He even sent me his estimate via email (which by the way...no one else wanted to do ) I just couldn't understand why so high of a price.
UPDATE: 6/17/2013 @ 4:30PM --- After not hearing from anyone at Liberty Fence (again!!! ) I called them one more time. After a 15 minute hold or so, I was told that everything was in, but that they might not be able to finish the job in one day. Say what??? Really? I don't even have an acre of land and it has been almost 9 weeks since we signed the contract.
6/18/2013---morning and afternoon I get a call from the installation departmen (one at my house and one on my cell phone) to call them back ASAP please I am like "REally? What now?" So, apparently the cedar nor the aluminum fence are in yet and are due to be in by Monday Their excuse is that their supplier is behind fullfilling too many orders and they keep putting a rush on it but the matter is off their hands. The only thing they can put up is the PVC fence because they manufacture such themselves, however, the driveway gates can't go up the same day because they have to measure and cut and that might take a few days longer.
I was actually asked, if I prefer for them to do the whole job at once at the end of next week...WT?
So, I said "If is going to take a few days for you guys to measure, manufacture and put together the gate, wouldn't it be better for you guys to start the job on Friday and put up the PVC fence (take the gate measurement) as well as re-inforce the existing cedar fence around the house.(which is also part of the contract)? in that way, when you come next week to finish the job, you can also put up the gates." She was, like "oh yeah, you are right! But we at least have to give the rest of the order until Wednesday to arrive because we are not sure" I explained to her that I need everything up before next Saturday for my daughter's sweet 16th party, so my triplets can play in the front of the house while the party is going on by the pool. She is like "oh, I understand, I am a mother of twins, and ....." I said "regardless of how many kids we both have, a nine week waiting period for a simple job is not excused. It is not like I have 2 acres of land for you to fence in, is just the front and side of the house."
She is like "Oh, I understand, I see what we can do"
So, finally I had enough, I am filing a complaint at consumers affairs and I explained to her that we are in the process of doing such. They will hear from my husband who is a construction litigator.
OMG!!! I can't believe this people!!! I WILL NEVER HIRE LIBERY FENCE EVER AGAIN!!!

Sorry you're having so much trouble. In the past, I've used Robert's and been pleased. Just recently, I was quoted by a few places but wanted to go with Amendola's because my husband liked their product better. When I called the sales guy, he matched my best quote. Still waiting, so we will see.

Thanks ;) I called again 30 minutes ago and after holding for 15 minutes, they said that everything was in but not sure if they could finish the job in one day Really? I just had a French drain put in my house with a pump (which requires a lot of excavation and breaking through concrete in my basement) and they were done in one day. I asked them if they will finish it by the next day, which is a Saturday and they don't know. I have to wait until the installation department calls me the day before.
Good luck to you

Sorry you are having so much trouble
We just used Continental Fence and they were fabulous. A little higher than our other estimates, but imo totally worth the extra money. The quality of the actual fence and the work is superb.

Re: Liberty Fence....ahhhhh!!! UPDATE 6/18/2013
We called them twice for a quote and they never even called us back. We thought that choosing them was a given - a bunch of our neighbors all used them 3 years ago, after shopping around and getting the best price from Liberty. We were pretty much calling to flat-out give them our business, and they wouldn't even return our phone calls.
(btw, Rose Fence got back to us right away... and said they could send someone 5 weeks later to do an estimate, and it would be 6-8 weeks after *that* to get an install. Amendola waited 8 days to call us back, and then called me every day for a week. But we'd already given our business to another company, the only fence company that actually came out to give us an estimate.)

Thank you everyone We got our PVC fence in last Friday. However, still waiting for the driving gates (for PVC fence), the wood fence and aluminum fence. I called this morning and didn't get a return call until late afternoon to let me know they would call tomorrow. It is officially 9 weeks since I signed the contract

Re: Liberty Fence....ahhhhh!!! UPDATE 6/18/2013
oh wow
I hated the salesman from Amendola who came out to give me a quote - i bet it was the same guy you had. He was so cocky and arrogant about their product and wrote his quote on the back of a business card - couldn't even take the time to give me a real written estimate and just assumed he'd be getting the work. I could totally picture him saying that about talking to your husband too! He so rubbed me the wrong way that as soon as he left i vowed never to give them the job, no matter what the other prices were!
we ended up going with Rose's. We had someone come right away, they honored their same quote 5 months later and the fence was installed on one day instead of the two they originally though.
good luck to you, i hope you get the fence before the party!!
