Learning about Nassau neighborhoods...

I'm wondering if there are any sites I can go on to learn about specific areas of Nassau county. I've checked out great schools and school digger but looking to learn more about crime rates etc. also want to figure out which schools you are zoned for in some of the larger districts that have multiple elementary and high schools

More specifically does anyone know about east meadow? The small part north of Hempstead turnpike (near Eisenhower park and the medical center (and i thinK seems to be more on the westbury area right near east meadow high school)?
Dh saw a house there he likes but I didn't love the neighborhood from what I saw but thought east meadow was supposed to be good

In that area north of Hempstead Turnpike, I believe it's the Meadowbrook elementary and then Clarke MS and HS. Right around the hospital is the Clearmeadow area (a lot of the street names are women's names over there, if that's the same area you are thinking of).

But for most Nassau SD, you cannot find the particular schools an address is zoned for online. Most school districts don't publish it, because lines are subject to change. I know in Suffolk, West Islip school district does have that on its website, but I have yet to find a Nassau district that does. So the only way you can really confirm is to call the particular school district where the home is located and ask what particular schools your child (or future child) would attend. I usually find it helpful to call the Transportation Dept for the district.

MLSLI.com has some demographic info about different areas (it's under the "Community Info" tab). You might also find it helpful to look at www.city-data.com. They give you a lot of information re: charts/graphs re: whatever zip code/area you are looking at, and they also have forums where people offer opinions and anecdotes about different areas.

What area are you talking about - the one right behind East Meadow High School or the one near Meadowbrook Elementary school?

I went to Meadowbrook Elementary and we had some people who were zoned for that elementary school, but then they went to East Meadow high, whereas most of Meadowbrook goes to Clarke MS & HS.

I think if you are talking about the section in between Carman Ave and Eisenhower Park your High School would definitely be East Meadow, not Clarke.

For me, I wouldn't really love that area for a house. You can't walk to any kind of park, people cut through there to avoid that long light on Carman and Hempstead Tpke all the time, so depending on what street you are talking about you could have a lot of traffic.

If you are interested in East Meadow/Salisbury I think there are 'better' (just amenity-wise) locations.

That said, I'm sure it's a really convenient area, especially if you take the Meadowbrook to work!

If you pull up the house on Trulia.com, you can scroll down to "Local Info" and you will see a Crime tab. You can zoom in/out to see where there are issues.
City-data is also great, as the other posters suggested.

My concern with that area is that the county jail is right behind Nassau University Medical Center. I wouldn't want to be so close, just my personal opinion.

My DH works in that area, he likes the houses in that section but says the area behind the McDonalds east of there is nicer. I'm not sure if the jail would bother me, I think I would be more concerned with thru traffic.

DH grew up off of East Meadow Ave. near Woodland Middle School. He went to Barnum Woods as a kid. It seems like a nice neighborhood, the traffic gets a little crazy during pickup and drop off for the middle school, but other than that it seems like a nice area.

Ita. It's a very small residential area within a huge commercial area. There are better areas of EM IMO.
