BEST NEIGHBORHOODS & SD'S IN NASSAU?

Hey girls....My FH and I are looking to buy a home in Nassau County in the upcoming months. We have just begun our search and I was wondering if any of you had any advice on what towns are the best, safest & have the best school districts (I have a 2yo son from a previous marriage). Any advice would be great, as I am an Eastern Suffolk resident and he is from Queens.

Thanks so much...Jess

Great Neck
Syosset
Jericho
Manhasset
Merrick
Roslyn

All have good school districts and are nice, clean & safe places to live... There are many others, these are just the ones that I am most familiar with...

For school district info you can go to Newsday.com

As far as neighborhoods I would recommend mine. I'm in Bethpage North of Hempstead Tpke. I love it here. There are many nice neighborhoods. I grew up in North Bellmore and had a great childhood there.

I'm sure others will come along and tell you how great their towns are too!

Does anyone know anything about East Rockaway...

Wantagh is definately on our list to look, Roslyn is WAY outa our price range, homes are all $750,000 and up.
Merrick
Bellmore
Bethpage are all places we are considering.
Massapequa schools are not that good I hear.
Manhasset is good also but Great Neck is a little High for us i think.

Thanks guys and keep em coming...

North or South Shore does not matter.

I went to South Side in RVC - it's ranked in the top 100 nationally. (But of course, I can't afford to buy a house there!)

I thought East Rockaway was in Queens but i could be wrong. Roslyn, Manhasset and Great Neck are all in the same price range. You would actually get the most for you money in Roslyn out of those three. You could try Roslyn Heights - that is a little less pricey, but part is in Mineola school district which I am not familiar with.....

Rockville Centre has great schools and is a very cute community.

I went to Farmingdale, and I think the SD is great. Great Music and Athletics. I took 3 AP classes in High School, and they offered CW Post credits too.

It gets a bad rap sometimes because its a little more diverse than Massapeuqa and Plainedge.

East Rockaway is in Nassau County, near Oceanside and Lybrook.
You can live in East Rockaway and go to Lynbrook School district schools. Lynbrook and Oceanside Schools are very good.

Herricks is a good SD. I went there and we just bought our house in the Herricks SD also.

ETA: If you buy on the New Hyde Park side/ Lakeville Estates area for Great Neck South schools, prices are a little bit more reasonable.

Re: BEST NEIGHBORHOODS & SD'S IN NASSAU?

Rockville Centre has one of the best school districts, which is probably why the houses are so $$$. If you can find something affordable, it's a great place to live.

I was also going to reccomend Bethpage. I grew up there (near the trains station) & it doesn't seem to have changed much.

The schools were good when I was there, not the crazy award-winning, people live there just to say they are sending the kids there, kind of area, but safe, and small- medium sized & fairly well rounded academic & extra-curricular opportunities.

I would have to agree as well as Garden City, Bellmore, merrick, Seaford, all of which are good neighborhoods to live in as well.

Massapequa ParkChat Icon We moved here in December(just renting right now)but we love it and the kids love the schools. My little guy will be going to East Lake and it's won the Blue Ribbon Award. We looked into it before hand since we came from Freeport schools and they(rated very well).

It really depend on the price range you are looking to spend.

Most of the places recommended will cost you $$$. If you are looking to spend less, I live in Levittown in the Island Trees School District which is a good school district for a more reasonable price.

I grew up in East Rockaway and my parents still live there. Unfortunately, I went to Catholic schools, so I can't really comment on the school district (although I guess my parents didn't think too highly of it if they sent us all to Catholic schools, IMO). Like someone else posted, you can live in ER and be in the Lynbrook SD and that is probably more ideal.

Re: BEST NEIGHBORHOODS & SD'S IN NASSAU?

I grew up in Massapequa...schools were always good. Make sure it is SD 23.... I believe they are still excellent. Massapequa is a GREAT place to raise a family IMO. I went to Unqua for Elementary, McKenna for JH and graduated from Massapequa HS.

Other good ones are Wantagh, Bellmore, Merrick and Seaford -- all the towns dotting the south shore and the ones near Massapequa are all I know about in that area.
