Long Island Neighborhoods (Nassau)

Educate me!

We are looking to buy a house in the next couple of years, but not that familiar with all the wonderful neighborhoods of LI. Affordable and otherwise I want to know it all!

eta: we will have a toddler when we move, and probably TTC #2. So lots of kid friendly things nearby, and lots of places to take a walk with the kids.

Carle Place is a very small town with a great school district and close-knit community.

I've lived there since birth and when it was time for my DH and I to buy a house, we stayed in the area. We are now expecting our 1st child and are so happy with our decision!!

I don't think you can go wrong with towns along the south shore from Merrick-Bellmore-Wantagh-Seaford-Massapequa-Massapequa Park.

We have good schools, lots of parks, an easy trip to the City on the LIRR, lots of shopping, and a good variety of home styles.

I've lived here my whole life and happy to still call it home.

Good luck with your search.

I second that! I'm a HUGE fan of Wantagh but I think the whole area is great!

Agreed. DH and I live in Bellmore, and love it. He grew up in Wantagh. His parents are still there, and his sister is buying in Seaford. All great areas.

I agree with the posts above. We loved Port Washington too but it was just out of reach pricewise for us.

We needed a quick commute and my mom is in Huntington and DH's family is in Queens, so we needed somewhere halfway. We bought in Bellmore, love our neighborhood and there is always PLENTY going on in the area to do with children! The schools are top notch too!

HTH!

Re: Long Island Neighborhoods (Nassau)

We live in Oceanside:

Pluses:

Modest Taxes
Close to beach
Close to RVC
Direct train line
Good Schools

Negatives:

Long Beach road VERY Trafficky
No close parkways
TOH can be a pain in the @ss when it comes to building extensions etc.

Re: Long Island Neighborhoods (Nassau)

I like Plainview and Bethpage.

We are in the northern part of Bethpage. I like this neighborhood the best, near all of the great Plainview shopping and lower taxes.Chat Icon
