Need evergreen shrub/tree ideas

I'm having landscaping done and have no clue as to what plants to ask for to line the back of my yard for some privacy!

I love evergreen trees/shrubs that are green all year round and have flowers 1 or 2x a year.

Any ideas on what low maintenance evergreen shrubs/trees to pick?

My landscaper recommends red barbara's, rhododendron, golden cypress and blue spruce...

My friend recommends azaleas...

Evergreen trees are your best bet for year round screening, followed by rhododendrons some of which can get very tall - not all do so check on each species growing habits. Their flowers come in different colors and bloom in late spring, so starting right about now, and are very low maintenance. They keep their leaves but can look quite thin in mid-winter as the leaves tend to sort of fold up and droop in cold. They came from cold areas in China originally and are related to laurels.

Azaleas are good for interspersing in front of the others to soften the planting lines, they grow lower and also bloom once a year usually in May.

I suggest you go to a nursery and look around to see what you like and ask questions. You will learn a lot and it will be fun.

Another thing, if you have deer you might want to try to get things deer don't like to munch on.

Arborvitae grow tall. Rhododendron are also great. (Thy are in bloom through may).

Some of our plantings are:

"Spring Grove" - Thuja Plicata: used on the perimeter as a privacy screen

"Emerald Green" arborvitae: used around our patio as a privacy & sound screen. We chose these because they don't grow very tall, but they do require some maintenance to keep a pyramidal shape, unless you want them to grow together as a hedge row.

Rhododendron : I'm not sure if the specific type, but its low growing (4'x4') and we went with white flowers.

"Green ice" boxwood

We have a bunch of other boxwoods in the front and backyard fence line, but again I'm not sure of the type. One is a low growing sphere (1'x1' or so) and the other is pyramidal and can get 4'x4'.

We also have several Alberta Spruces which are really slow growing.

Then there's our Holly bushes: "Dragon Lady" and "Nellie Stevens"
