Plant/Shrub/tree help
so in my quest to build our tropical backyard I am stumped as to what to plant
we have 2 hibiscus trees on our deck but we have to take them inside for the winter (dont want to chance them by wrapping them)
Anyway i would like tropical looking plants that are ok in the northern climate --is there such a thing - any suggestions???
TIA

Ornamental grass is very tropical looking. They come back every year too and easy to up keep. Some hostas are tropical as well.
Or how about Red Ginger

The most common bamboo that you see is terribly invasive and impossible to get rid of. Glad you're not considering it.
I agree on all the other suggestions. The Canna might need some extra protection in the form of mulch over the winter. I will by trying them out to see if they survive in the ground.
Believe it or not, yes we are zone 7 unless you live in the microclimate smack dab in the middle of the island. It's the buffering aspects of being surrounded by water that makes our climate milder than surrounding areas.
