Baby Nurse: Yay/Nay and Why/Why not?
I got one as a gift and am soooo grateful!! Dh and I went back and forth on the idea and thought we could handle it, we live in a small apt etc but in the end we got her for a week and we are both so glad we did!! She taught us so much! Of course we knew how to change diapers but she showed us how to bath her, helped me keep with the breast feeding, allowed me to get some sleep. Little things you don't think of...if they pee/poop through the diaper you pull it off their legs instead of over their head to avoid it accidebtally getting on their face etc. the time with her was really priceless bc this was out first. Yes getting the money for a cleaning lady or to be able to order some meals would be nice...but Dh would clean the house when I nursed and people do come bringing food

Baby Nurse: Yay/Nay and Why/Why not?
Depends on the situation. I had a VERY tough labor with ds1 and could barely walk for two weeks. My mom and mil could not take off work and my dh had to go back after two days. I was completely overwhelmed and an lifer gave me the number for a nurse. The nurse came from 8-4 for about a month. life.saver. With ds2 I handled everything on my own. I hada great birth and was on my feet like nothing ever happened within hours. I also had experience and I guess confidence.

No, i would not want one. I am a control freak. I would rather a maid.

I guess I'm in the minority when I say I would ABSOLUTELY want one being that this is my first. While I know I have my mom and MIL for help I would rather have someone who isn't going to push the "we didn't do that when I had kids 100 years ago". I'd rather have someone who isn't going to really get up in my business and help me on how to get him to sleep and on a schedule and help me feed him and answer any questions I have for the first week without me having to call someone who just knows from having children YEARS ago or asking someone who only has one child since all children are different. My mom had one when she had my older sister and she said it was more of a "I have a question" then the nurse taking care of the baby.
Also, DH has been working 10 hour days, 6 days a week and probably will continue to do that after DS is born since I'm still out of work. I would like that extra help, ESPECIALLY if I have a c-section.
ITA! I had a baby nurse with my DD ann I will have a nurse with my second. It was SUCH a help! I did NOT want my mother or MIL around all the time. I had no experience with babies and I was exhausted and not moving around well and she made things so much easier. There's nothing shameful in having things made easier for you after you have a baby. If you can afford it, its worth every penny ETA: I was breastfeeding too and the nurse was a big help. In fact, I have a lot of friends that used baby nurses and breast fed and they thought it was helpful as well.

Re: Baby Nurse: Yay/Nay and Why/Why not?
I didn't have one the first time around. For us, it really wasn't necessary. DH was able to stay home for 2 weeks and although I had a c-section my recovery was pretty easy. DS was also a fantastic baby and gave us no trouble at all. Plus we lived in a 1BR apt, so even if we wanted live-in help it wouldn't have worked too well.
This time around I still don't think I'll need one as I have lots of family nearby. But I agree that if I had money I would def spend it on a cleaning person and someone to cook for us.
It really will depend on your situation and your comfort level with having someone in your home. If you're comfortable with it and have the money I don't see how it could hurt!

Now, now... don't you know this is a forbidden question?
that was the first time i ever got involved in a drama thread my entire time on both LIW AND LIF. That sh*t got crazy!
You can rest assured that every time someone mentions a baby nurse, I think of you and that thread!!

Re: Baby Nurse: Yay/Nay and Why/Why not?
Nope. It is solely my preference. I had no problem handling the baby myself. I had a good recovery from my csection and was breastfeeding. I would have had no place for a baby nurse. I do plan on getting a cleaning lady!

Baby Nurse: Yay/Nay and Why/Why not?
It really all depends. DD was a wonderful newborn. If and when we have another I hope and pray that LO is just like her. If I wasn't getting the sleep I needed or the baby was collicky, then yes, I would want someone to help, especially with DH back to work.

If money were not an issue I would absolutely hire a baby nurse. I could have really used one with my DD. She was a tough newborn, I had no idea what I was doing and I felt like I was loosing my mind! It would have been nice to have a professional around for advice.

Re: Baby Nurse: Yay/Nay and Why/Why not?
I think it depends on the situations. I have mom helping me, and my dad is retired and can help me with my son.
If i didnt have the help, it would be something to help me look into.
My friend had them with both her pregnancies and loved it, so to each their own.

Nope. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a stranger in my house and I want that time wo bond with the baby.
Honestly- it's NOT that hard. Unless there are extenuating circumstances (problem with recovery, DH is overseas and there are several other Children, etc.) I don't see the need.
To each their own though.

It's not for me. But if I had the money I would use it towards a cleaning lady/food shopping lady/cook for me lady.
That's a great idea! I'd rather do the baby stuff and have someone else do the rest.
YES!!!!!! That would be MUCH more helpful!!!

No, I feel I am capable of handling it myself. I have so much help around with family living so close, but I just couldn't have a strange person in my home!

I thought postpartum doula's would do this kind of stuff.
I wouldn't want / need someone to take care of my baby. Unless there are issues obviously. But to help around the house with cleaning would be nice.
