Coed baby shower - yay or nay?

I know its very early for me to be thinking about this, but I think I want to have a coed baby shower. My mom passed away, and my side of the family is very small to begin with. If we had a female-only shower, there would only be mabye a few guests from my side (and women that I'm not even that close to) and otherwise it would be mostly DH's side. I'd really like to have my Dad and brothers there, as well as DH and other men in our family that are special to us. DH isn't crazy about the idea, mostly because he thinks it would be boring for the men, but I've been to a coed shower before and thought it was fun. We would be having it as a backyard party during the summer at DH's dad's house and he always throws great parties that everyone loves to attend. So I feel like why leave the men out?

That sounds great! Like a fun bbq to celebrate the new baby!

If you still want to do games, there are definitely some games that lend themselves better to co-ed groups, like the melted chocolate in the diapers and "who can drink from the bottle the fastest" or "who can deliver the ice cube baby first" since guys are all goofy and competitive like that anyway.

We had our baby gender party and the men had just as much fun as the girls ~ they even wore the color shirt to be on team boy or girl!

I think that's a great idea. Especially if it's at someone's house.

Re: Coed baby shower - yay or nay?

thanks for the input, ladies! Now I know I want to go with a coed shower. I think it would be so much more fun. We can barbecue and guests can go in the pool if they want. I like the idea of a more casual, relaxed baby shower. One thing that DH likes about it is a lot of the men in his family smoke cigars, so he's excited to buy some special ones to hand out to the men. I guess if we end up playing any games that would be boring for the men, that would be a good time to hand out the cigars!

I guess everyone is different, but I wouldn't want that for the same reason men don't go to bachelorette parties; I don't think they belong there. DH just needs to come by at the end to get the presents. That's the only time I saw him at baby shower #1 and that's the only time I want to see him this time aroundChat Icon

Re: Coed baby shower - yay or nay?

I think its a wonderful idea. I originally wanted to do a coed too but DH decided no at the last min. I too don't have mom so my MIL has taken over the process. I'm appreciative but also a bit annoyed b/c I wanted to be part of the planning process. I say run w/the idea and have a fantastic time!!!!

I wanted a coed baby shower because I have a lot of male friends and practically no female friends. Plus, I have a brother and no sisters and DH has a brother and no sisters, so our family is male dominated as well. I asked for one, but I don't think it will be happening. My mom wants to keep it ridiculously small and my MIL is anti-coed completely saying showers are only for women...

I say, do what you want if the people working on the shower are OK with it. Push for it because, it is your (and the baby's) day and you should have your family there and the people that are important to you.

I had a coed baby shower in my backyard! It turned out great. We rented a tent and all the ladies sat under the tent and did the whole "baby shower" thing. All the men were on the patio eating & drinking and just hanging out. It was nice having them there to help clean up and carry all the gifts into the house lol.

If you go co Ed think more party than shower. My sis had a coed one cause her boyfriend is Dominican and that's what they do. It was a party with drinking and lots of music and no shower games

That's pretty much what I'm picturing and what I would prefer. I'm not really into the games. I'd rather just have everyone there hanging out, eating good food, and enjoying what will hopefully be a nice summer day in DHs dad's beautiful backyard.

Mom and sister are planning a coed shower for me. For my bridal shower the men of the family came and sat at a table by themsleves. They were there for the food and to carry all the packages to the car. They were fine with it,
