Flying while Pregnant - WWYD?

Ok, I need some help ladies!! My friend who lives in TN is getting married in June and DH and I are invited. I'll be 28 weeks by then and in my 3rd trimester. While part of me wants to go the other part of me says don't do it. They have labled me as a high-risk pregnancy and for those who may know..I am having twins. So far everything has been going well in the pregnancy..but I am nervous that if I get on the plane what if it's rocky or bad turbalance..and I end up not feeling so great! I've waitied so long for this moment to become pregnant and have gone through so much to have my little ones that I am trying to keep them safe.

What would you ladies do if you were in my situation?

Personally, if I were you I wouldn't go. All of the "what-if's" are enough to stop me from going at that point.

But I also lean towards the side on caution for everything.

I flew at 25 or 26 weeks to Florida with no issues whatsoever. I was not, however, high risk or carrying twins. I would rely on your doctors expertise, but if you are just too nervous about it I would err on the side of caution.

I personally wouldn't go, especially with twins. Being on a plane in the third trimester may be uncomfortable, but with twins I would think even more uncomfortable

ETA: I'm flying to FL for family vacation and I'll be 29 weeks. Doc said it;s fine but I'm not high risk with twins

Re: Flying while Pregnant - WWYD?

I'm all for flying, but I think with Twins I would sit that one out, Any way you can drive? TN isn't too far of a drive and then you would be able to stop along the way if need be.....Also it would be safer in terms of mapping out any hospitals along the way, Just In Case.....

I would ask the doctor first and see what he/she thinks. You can fly all the way until 36 weeks but if you are high risk I would definitely ask the doctor first

Flying while Pregnant - WWYD?

If I was not high risk and not having twins I would go but with the other things added in I would stay at home. Having twins alone would make be stay close to home then add in any other issues...no way.

Re: Flying while Pregnant - WWYD?

Thank You ladies for all your input. My feeling was I should not go. When I asked my Dr.( It wasn't my reg Dr.) she said I should be able to go but when you are in your third trimester anything can happen and I don't know how you are gonna feel by June. There is a wedding coming up on the Island in May. I think DH and I will go to that instead. I can not jeopardize these babies lives. I think I just made up my mind..as sadly as I would love to attend I just can't take the risk. I will send the couple a gift. I'm thankful I have a friend who understands and just wants me and the twins to be safe and healthy. She plans on maing a trip to NY at the end of year of beginning of next year.Chat Icon

I agree. I wouldn't NOT go just because you are labeled high risk and having twins.

Speak to your doctor about it.

If it isn't a close friend- I might skip it, but it's so much harder to do these things once you have children- so get in as much as you can now! Chat Icon

Crashing but I had twins and I wouldn't go. Things can change in an instant with twins and 28 weeks is a crucial time. Chat Icon

I'm all for traveling during pregnancy but being high risk and being pregnant with twins, I wouldn't go. I would be too scared that I would go into labor so I know twins usually come early...hopefully not that early but it's more possible then someone pregnant with only 1.

Re: Flying while Pregnant - WWYD?

I have a laid back attitude about this. I flew at least once a month during my pregnancy, with my last flight being the day before I turned 36 weeks (to TN in fact!).

My doc always said, it's really not about the flight (just keep hydrated and move around), it's more about the possibility of going into labor in a different city. Since I wasn't traveling to a third world country, I wasn't too worried.

If my doctor was okay with me flying, I'd go.

My OB said no traveling after 24 weeks with twins. Honestly I'm 26 weeks now and I am really starting to get back pain and leg pain. I would not be comfortable flying in this state. I would talk to your OB about travel, it may not even be an option for you.
