Cereal vs Oatmeal - lots of ?
DD will be 6 months next week. Shes had some fruits and vegetables but now she will be on a schedule with more solids incorporated. Which do I start with cereal or oatmeal and what kind do you get? Is it ready made or do I have to make it and if I have to make it do you use water or breastmilk?
TIA!

I believe oatmeal is considered the cereal. I got the Gerber oatmeal. Gives you all the measuring on the box. If your just starting out the more liquidy the better. When she gets used to the texture then you start to thicken it. I believe I mixed formula with it. Go my your own discretion. When she's taking the oatmeal well then add more oatmeal to the breast milk to make it thicker.

Oatmeal is a type of baby cereal. There is oatmeal, rice cereal, and barley.AlAll of them come in flake form and you mix it with breastmilk, formula, water, or a puree.

I used oatmeal and just mixed it to the consistency I wanted. You can use anything to make it liquidy - breastmilk, formula, or purees. I give oatmeal to DS mixed with applesauce or pearsauce.

Re: Cereal vs Oatmeal - lots of ?
We give DS every morning for "breakfast" which is his 2nd feeding of the day:
Earth's Best Whole Grain Oatmeal (3 dry tablespoons + 2-3 oz breastmilk/formula)
Then some puree fruit (2-3 oz)..depending on how hungry he is.

I use the Beechnut oatmeal and multigrain cereals. I mix her cereal with formula and also give her a pureed fruit for breakfast. She has a history of not drinking enough formula, so for us, using formula in the cereal helped increase her intake.

My D is 6 mos next week and we just started solids. We are doing beechnut oatmeal and thinning with a lil water and lil breastmilk. This is day 3 and can't tell if she likes it yet.

This. At the suggestion of my ped, we skipped rice cereal (which is usually the first solid most babies start with) and went right to oatmeal because of concerns over the arsenic levels in rice. I used Earth's Best brand and in the beginning just gave DD oatmeal mixed with breastmilk. After she got used to it, I started mixing fruits into it as well, like applesauce.

Cereal vs Oatmeal - lots of ?
DD is 4 months old and our ped said to start her with cereal first before the fruits etc. We use earths best organic rice cereal - mix it with formula. They said we could use any type, rice cereal, barley, oatmeal or whatever kind...

I started with oatmeal since I was fanatic with the whole arsenic thing. I use earths best oatmeal, I did cave in and get rice, and now they're on to the multigrain one.

Earths best multigrain cereal is what we started and have stayed with, since DS has a constipation problem and rice would have been too binding. He has it at breakfast and dinner, but for him only about a tablespoon at each for now - usually with either banana or apple sauce. DS is five months.

Re: Cereal vs Oatmeal - lots of ?
With DS2, I only gave him oatmeal. Rice cereal was so binding on DS1 that I didn't even bother giving it to DS2. At first, I mixed it with BM and it was pretty soupy. He preferred thicker purees pretty early on so then I just mixed the oatmeal with fruits or vegetables.

I use the boxed kind. I started with rice cereal and then went with oatmeal. She likes the rice cereal but loves the oatmeal. I also mix it with the veggie and fruit purees. Never had constipation issues but her poops became more formed when she started on solids.
