this thread had me thinking back to my childhood..keep in mind that I come from a large family of good, decent people lol. My irish catholic grandmother who is the best person I know used to fib about our age at the beach club every summer. I think the difference in pass prices was like $100 per child once you turned 12. They didn't ask for birth certificates and obviously we weren't 12 forever, lol...but it was fine. Maybe not in the eyes of some people on here, but i think of things like that..she wasn't doing it to be malicious or trying to cheat the system, we just weren't a very wealthy family and to save a few hundred bucks helped. Most of the time we weren't at the beach a whole lot, it was once in a while and I guess she thought it was awful the price they charged for passes.
My dad used to fib about our age to ride on the LIRR as well. I forget under what age rides free, but I remember him saying my sisters were say under 6.
I know these things aren't 100% honest...but i find them to be so insignificant in the scheme of things. I usually tend to pay the price of whatever something is but it does infuriate me when say 2 and under is free but 3 years old jumps to a whole bunch of $$. I know exactly where the OP is coming from. I have a three year old that eats NOTHING. He picks at a piece of toast half the time. I would prob end up paying for him anyway, but I don't think its "wrong" to say he's 2.

It's not only $85. It's $170 since its a two night minimum. I can afford the difference, its simply an utter waste of money. Just because I have it doesn't mean I want to throw it away. And the bottom line for me is, I am already paying a premium for myself and my older DS. It's not as though kids over 3 get perks that kids under 3 do not, so I don't really feel like I'm taking advantage of them. My younger DS probably eats as much as the average 1 year old.
I don't get why you are getting so defensive. You asked what others thought, some said go for it some said it is wrong. If you thought you were right, which clearly you do based on your response that I quoted then why did you even come on here to ask us? I'm not saying your are right or you are wrong I'm saying don't get so upset over other people telling you that it's wrong when you asked what they thought.

We do it at restaurants with my older child. She just automatically orders off the kids menu. Some places she's still considered to be on the kids menu others not. She doesn't like the food on the adult menu and no one questions it.
For the most part, most places don't ask the age, they just take your word for it.
I'm 33 and order off the kids menu.  I just don't eat that much food!!

Fibbing about DS age
we are going through this this year.... Disney is going to charge like $80 admission for my 3 year old.... Yet a 2 year old gets in FREE....
My DS was proud to learn to say he is "2" when he was 2, and 3 when he is 3, so I don't see him lying if they ask him.....Plus my parents would tell places I was a younger age and had me ready to lie about my age, but as an adult, and now wanting to raise my kids christian, it left a bitter taste in my mouth, I don't want my kid feeling like that as an adult. jmo
plus all it does is make the parks charge extra money to the child and adult admissions to make up for all the people that do lie about their kids age.
In a restaurant, if they automatically give you a kids menu, then at least the child is getting a smaller meal at the smaller price, not the same size meal(or in a park the same rides).
Its not worth asking on here, your going to get people who are passionate about both sides of it..... screw the company VS screw the other people who pay admission.

Could you have your DH wait off to the side with the 2/3 year old when you check in? This way you dont have to worry about him correcting you. I would have my son and DH off to the side in case they asked the child, but would they really ask a toddler?

Well this winter I took my kids skiing. And I am an awful sinner and poor role model because I told my daughter that if she wanted lessons with her brother she had to be six and well she is almost 6, sort of. So for skiing she said she was six. Yea I admit it and she had the time of her life.
When she asked why I explained that this lie didnt hurt anyone. I actually paid more for her than I had to.

I don't need help, I was simply curious. I had absolutely no clue this would turn into a 3 page debate. I don't realize people would be so opinionated one way or another.
And for the record, I ended up not going because I had no one to watch my dog. But if I had, I would have lied.

im scared to lie about anything- if they asked me for proof id be mortified. so id rather be honest and ask them outright if you can avoid the 3 yr old rate. since his birthday was JUST recently.

We've done it to get into places where there was no admission 2 and under but never for anything more than that. Now my DS is 3.5 and tall there's no way anyone would believe that..especially when he opens his mouth to talk
