Rectal thermometer accuracy

Does anyone find that they never get the same reading twice? I have the Vicks one and it can be a difference of .5 sometimes. Just now it said 100.2 then 100.4 the second time. Drives me nuts. DD is miserable. I know it's not a high fever but she's so tired.
I just had a fever for 3 days and DH had bronchitis. I'm praying this is just teething. She's 11 months and I'm waiting for those molars.

I was told not to do them in a row. Wait at least 5 minutes in between. A point 2 degree difference wouldn't concern me. That could be from the baby moving around.

I would not even think 2x about a .2 difference. rectal is the most accurate so i dont even do it 2x.

give a little motrin if you think your DD is uncomfortable. 11 months is still early for molars....they call them 1 year molars but its usually later.

Rectal is the most accurate... And a .2 isn't a big difference at all... I know if I retested my dd in a row like that, it would go up just from her getting agitated and squirmy lol

Thanks all! Makes sense. I guess the .5 difference just really throws me off.

Rectal is definitely most accurate but I wouldn't worry about a slight difference. We just went through this as DD cut her first 2 teeth. I gave her tylenol b/c I knew she was uncomfortable b/c of the teething pain.
