How quiet do you have to keep your house to keep baby from waking? ETA: any sound machine recs?
Sound machines: homedics rain for bed and crib naps, the sleep giraffes jungle sound for rock and play. BUT we were actually very loud, so he sleeps through us walking around, parties, showers after bedtime, blow drying my hair even with the door open! So happy about this

We also have to keep it very quiet for naps (not as much for night time sleep as he is in a deeper sleep I guess). From day 1 he will wake up with naps no matter what with sudden noises ..he's ok w/ tv on in the next room etc. There was no getting him to adjust to noise, unfortunately if we want him to nap that's just the way it is. We do also always run a Graco plug in white noise machine
I agree with this. For some kids, making noise during their nap never gets them used to sleeping through noise it just keeps waking them up and makes everyone miserable. I think you have to try it out and if that doesn't work for you, then just use a sound machine and save the vacuuming for another time. Do what you need to do for your sanity.

Thanks! Thats pretty much how it is w my DD. If she's overtired she turns into a beast so it's not worth it to me to do anything that will wake her.

We have this one too. Actually, I've had it for 10+ years for myself but moved it to DD's room for now. My mom has used them for as long as I can remember too since she's also a light sleeper.

We also have a small house and try not to keep it too quiet. We got the lamb from bbb its got a few different sounds I think dd like the rain the best.

This is the one we have. We still use it for our 5 year old who goes to sleep an hour earlier than her big sister, and usually sleeps an hour later.

This is actually the one we decided to get! We ordered it from amazon on thurs afternoon after I started this thread based on all the great reviews it got, and it already came yesterday (amazon is so quick it's scary). I tried it last night and it seemed to work great. It's ugly but it makes a good amount of steady white noise. I like how we can adjust the vents to change the level of white noise coming out.

We have been using the Homedics sound spa since the day we came home from the hospital. Now at 22 months, we still put it on every night.

DD was born in may do got used to sleeping with the sound of the air conditioner... We got the dohm sound machine(on amazon but they sell it in buy buy baby).. It doesn't have nature sounds or anything, just the sound if whooshing air (diff speeds & volumes). It was kind of pricey but I wanted something that would sound like A/C & didn't have a timer/turn off after 20 minutes or whatever. It's cute bc when I get DD from crib every AM once I pick her up she looks right over at the sound machine like "ok mom, I'm up.. Turn that off now"

we made noise from day one - for both of them...... thanks to BFF telling me to do so ahead of time......
At daycare they love she falls asleep easy... Some of the other babies there, not so much, they put music on louder.... if you have cable- put the music channel on.
