Energy level of your 1 yr old? Long

How would you describe the energy level of your 1 year old?

Here is why I ask:
We have been aware for a while that DS is very loud an active. We do a lot of sensory play ( I was a special ed. teacher), we do a mommy and me class 2 x a week at the little gym, and we are starting a mommy snd me swimming class in 2 weeks. But it hasnt really bothered me because he is just a kid, and all kids are different. But yesterday, was the 1st time I noticed just how loud an active he is, since we were around some many other babies his age.

We had a playdate at a local coffee shop ( Im new to NC, so I joined an online mommy group, and this was our first playdate). There were about 10 babies, all relatively the same age as DS. But he was by far, the most active, most mobile and loudest. All the other babies, kind of just sat there and played independently, while the mommies were all able to sit and chat. But DS wanted to get into everything, so I literally had to be after him. it was really exhausting. I can tell some of the other mommies were getting annoyed. A couple of them even commented on how active he is , in a snarky way.

DD is 10 months but not really mobile yet. She def would have been one of the babies sitting in one spot playing no problem. That said, I would never expect a mobile 1 year old to sit still and not get into everything! We do library classes and usually most of the (somewhat younger) babies are pretty easy and one or two and crawling or walking all over. I feel bad that those moms don't get to sit and "relax" or socialize much but I certainly wouldn't see anything wrong with the situation. Maybe you need to try a different group or meet somewhere that has more for the babies to do.

My DS is 14 months and has been walking since 9 months. There is no keeping him still unless it is right before a nap or bedtime when he gets sleepy. He is on the go 24/7. He wasn't really a loud kid until recently. He has found his voice and started talking.

DS is 21 months now, but he started walking at 11 months and from then until about 16 months he was a complete nut. He's still very active, but he has calmed down a bit with trying to get into things that he's not supposed to. He used to try and touch and grab everything and there was no way to get him to sit, except to eat!

I wouldn't worry about it. Like a pp said, every kid is different. And just because those other ones are sitting nicely right now doesn't mean they will still be doing that in a month or two!

I wouldn't be concerned. But I might re-think the women you are befriending if they are seeming to hold your ONE YEAR OLD's activity level against you. I feel like moms, above everyone else, should understand. My DD is very active and "busy" - always in everything. Some kids are more like that than others! Chat Icon

DD is 2 1/2 now but has been walking and on the go practically since birth.she walked at 9 1/2 and hasn't stopped since. She is so active and loud it's unbelievable. She def is crazier than others. We go to My Gym, and she's the one running around and off on her own.

I have friend who's dd is 2 months younger and the same way. Walked early and on the go. We always say we would rather have an active child than one that is not active. She has a friend who's son just sits there and does nothing. Maybe plays with a toy for a long time.

Sure dd can be exhausting but she has spunk and personality.

I feel like it shows how much I do with with her. We are out all the time, on play dates, at the museum, parks etc.

Please do not feel bad or concerned about your kid. They should be active and loud that's how they learn

I definitely wont be attending anymore playdates with that group. I was shocked how annoyed they got. He wasn't hurting anyone. i guess he was ruining their relaxing time. Thanks for your response, as well as everyone else who responded.

My 16 month old twins are very active, they would never be able to sit in one spot for more then a few seconds, even at 12 months. They love running around and getting into everything. I think it's perfectly normal.

DS 2 is 11 months and he's extremely active - he doesn't sit still. He's in daycare and anytime the door opens, he's halfway down the hall in 2 seconds flat. There is no chatting with him around. DS 1 was the same way at that age.

Our friends used to feel bad for us - they had DDs about a year older than DS 1 but, their kids were more content sitting and whatnot and now they are on their second who are a lot more active!

We're these kids walking yet, I think most kids once they start walking can't keep still there is just too much to explore
I feel bad for these moms once their kids starting walking they will be in for a big surprise

Energy level of your 1 yr old? Long

My son is 11 months old and he NEVER stops moving from the minute he wakes up. He is not walking yet but he has been like this since birth pretty much. Sometimes I do worry because he seems to be much more wild than most other babies we know but I really do think that is just his personality. He is reaching all of his milestones and for the most part he is a good boy so I will not stress it unless it becomes a real issue.

Babies have all sorts of different temperaments and I think it's ridiculous that the other mom's were getting annoyed. Hopefully when their kids are mobile they will be complete hellions! That will show em! Chat Icon
