Older LO giving up the paci on their own

Ds is 3.5. Actually going to be 4 in 3 months.
I do let him have the paci at night only still, but since his cold last week he seems to not want them anymore. Well, it is great, but the last two nights he gets up crying. The pacifiers are in his bed, but he gets upset bc he puts it in his mouth and cries out NO... Half asleep.

How long does this last? I'm happy he's doing it himself. I know from stories from our parents both myself and DH had them till almost 4.

I was actually going to bring a pacifier with us for the plane ride, but now that he doesn't seem to care for them should I just forget it or bring it in case? I guess we can see how the week goes too.

So weird that he gets potty trained and gives up the paci on his own right at the same time.
I have told him he's a big boy now and just doesn't need it anymore.
Any other advise?

When my youngest gave his up, it took.about s full week for him to not look for it. Even after thwt week, I kept one hidden with me at all times in case. So since your traveling, I would bring it but don't let him know you havr it or see it.

DS has a bad cold and was crying out in his sleep b/c he couldn't breathe. That could be why your DS is crying out b/c he wants it but he can't breathe with it in his mouth.
I would DEF bring it with you when you fly. It will be a long trip if he decides he wants it and you don't have it. Especially with his ears popping. You don't have to tell him you have it until you need it.
