How did you drop the paci if your DC was 2 or older

Just preparing myself..I plan to do it this summer when she is closer to 3, I don't want her to drop the nap now at the babysitters.

How did you do it? A few months ago we tried cutting the nipple and she still sucked on it

Honestly, I did nothing. DS# 1 was SUPER attached, could only sleep if he had it (which was the only time he got it).

We decided to let him give it up when he was ready. A few months before he turned 4, he walked into the kitchen one morning, and threw his paci away declaring "I'm done with this now!"

The first few nights, he asked for it back, and I told him "You threw it away... its gone now". After about 4 nights, he stopped asking.

Right when he turned 3, I didn't replace the binkies when they got worn out. He was very particular about the certain type of binky he would take, so once they got worn out, that was it. He asked for it a few times, then forgot about it.

We've been talking to jacen for weeks about the binky fairy coming to take the binks to the babies. He's 2 1/2.

Then he became potty trained and would call himself a big boy all the time.

So we told him that big boys don't need binks anymore.

Then 2 days later, he woke up one morning and said he wanted to give the binks to the binky fairy.

So he put them all in a big envelope, we addressed it to the binky fairy and we walked to the mailbox to mail it.

Then after his nap that day, he found a present under his crib from the binky fairy as a thank you.

I just took it away cold turkey. Took her about two days to adjust not having it.

DD was 3 she was soo attached to that thing....and I thought it would be murder. I was relieved...it went super easy - 2 not so great nights (not terrible at all) and there was no looking back. We took it away cold turkey. I will say though...the day I took it away was the day she stopped napping for good.

ETA I cut a hole in the top as well. I did this about a week before we went cold turkey. I think it helped her to loose interest. she still used it, but she was frustrated with it.

DD was 2.5 and very attatched.
i cut a hole in the end of it...she looked at it and told me it was broken (she only had one left)
i asked her if she wanted it she said no its broken so i set it on her dresser...she asked to see it a few nights after that and it was still broken and that was the end of it!
