How soon after drinking can I pump and dump
Ped. told me if I'm going to drink then I should pump and dump. How soon after I drink can I pump? I would assume it takes a little while for the alcohol to get into the breast milk.

How soon after drinking can I pump and dump
You don't need to pump and dump at all as long as you wait until the alcohol is out of your system to bf. The alcohol doesn't stay in your milk, so if you're not buzzed you're fine.

I pumped and dumped... because I drank.... A LOT.  I was on a pumping schedule... so if I was pumping every 3 hours, I'd keep to that schedule and I'd dump the ones where I was drunk

Your best bet is to ask a lactation consultant, peds aren't as knowledgable as they are with regard to breastfeeding.
The advice you've received here is correct, no need to pump and dump.

I was told by my lactation consultant no need to pump and dump...if you can drive a car you can feed a baby...if you are wasted obviously you shouldn't bf

I pumped and dumped once. It was only because I pumped every 3 hours and I was drunk at my sisters wedding. I dumped the 11pm pump and then didn't pump again until 6am.

I def don't pump and dump. The rule of thumb is wait about 1 hour for every drink u have or until you aren't buzzed. Also as per kellymom.com and other sources the baby only gets 3% of what you take in.
If you are really concerned you can buy breast milk alcohol test strips at BRU!

Same situation... Only time I dumped the milk... And I have to say, I just about cried LOL.

Never did...it leaves your milk like it leaves your blood..so if you are ok to drive you are ok to nurse/pump
If u drink too much and the baby sleeps a long stretch or over night...then the next morning you are good to go...
I would sometimes offer a bottle and just wait until the next feeding..and it was usually good!

This is so good to hear! The 2 or 3 times I have pumped and dumped, I kept telling myself it was such a sin to waste the milk....the guilt

Another question, I know you're saying the alcohol leaves breast milk like your blood stream but is the milk flowing in and out of the breast? Doesn't the milk go there and stay there? How does the alcohol leave the breast milk?

Good ques - I believe it metabolizes out of your bloodstream and milk.

I pumped and dumped yesterday - first martini in almost a year!
I just pumped a little to relieve myself, I didn't pump a full feeding or as much as I would if I was trying to build up my stash.
I did it once and by the next feeding, I was feeling fine so I fed her normally.

The ONLY time I dumped was when I was on a winery trip. I had to pump in the limo (that was a sight! lol) to keep up with my schedule but I was pretty buzzed when I pumped so I spilled it out.
That was a fun day. lol.
Other than that I always have a drink or 2 when I know I won't be nursing for a few hours so it can clear out of my system.
