DS is drinking more than i pump!

So i was trying to get DS ready for daycare and have him get used to drinking from a bottle...now that he is, my feeezer stash has gone from a 2 month supply to now i only have a stash from yesterday and whatever i pumped today! He drinks 5 bottles of 5-6 oz a day and i pump 5 times but 2 of my pumping sessions is only about 3 oz each session! I have been taking the more milk plus and stared that 2 days ago and eating oatmeal in the morning...he nurses in the middle of the night if he wakes up and in the morning when he first wakes up...

What should i do? I have pumped after he nurses in the morning but thats 4 oz from one boob and nothing from the other that he nursed on...does this mean i should be looking foward to formula like really soon?

I hate that i have to go back to work...because of that, thats why i stopped nursing him so much! Grrrr!

can you add another pumping/feeding session? frequency will help your supply.

How old is he and how many times a day are you BFing and/or pumping?

He is 5 months...i pump 5 times a day...which is how many times he takes a bottle of BM...but when i pump, i get 4 oz and he drinks 5-6 oz, so i sometimes add 2 oz of formula so i dont use up all my BM.

I will try to add another session, i guess even if that session only gives me an ounce, but i guess i have to start somewhere :(

5 times a day should be OK for 5 months. When you pump, have you ever waited for a second let down. You will get a little more with that and it will signal your body to produce more.

It made a difference for me how I was feeling when I pumped-- if I was relaxed I produced a lot more than if I was stressed. I tried to read cheesy books or watch cheesy TV when I pumped.
ITA with pumping more to produce more too.

what do you mean by a 2nd let down?

what exactly is a letdown? Chat Icon

i'm embarrased because i pump and bf and i'm not sure what that is. is it when the milk stops coming out (as if you pumped it all already)?

It feels like alot of pressure and all of a sudden your milk just comes out continuosly...when DS was just a few weeks old, he used to gag b/c the milk came out too fast for him...now at 5 months, he is a pro at guzzling milk down...just wish i had more for him to guzzle...

I will try to stay relaxed while pumping...thats around the time i go online and surf/FB/shop, etc!

After you think you are finished, keep pumping for 2-5 min while nothing comes out. Eventually you will feel the "tingling" and more milk will come out.
