DH at baby shower? Timing?

Just wanted to hear some opinions. I want my DH come to my baby shower to open gifts and eat some cake. I never felt like this with my bridal shower or anything. I just feel like it's his baby too and I want him to get excited about the gifts, etc. Anyway, my party is from 12-4. The caterer said we would be done eating lunch at 2 and start presents then. Does that sound too early to invite DH? I don't want him to come too early and watch us eat. What do you think? Chat Icon

Does your DH want to be there for gifts and cake? That's like half the shower.........most men don't have an interest. I know DH didn't, he felt it was a girly thing. Chat Icon

That being said, he dropped me off and stayed for a few to say hi to everyone. Then he came back in the last 45 min or so to say good bye, thank everyone, and start loading the cars.

But if your DH wants to be there I would say about halfway through would be about right for him to come for the presents and cake. Chat Icon

I think my DH would rather have a root canal than open presents at my shower Chat Icon so i am going to have him come back around cake. If your DH wants to be there, I don't think it matters when he comes.

Re: DH at baby shower? Timing?

My shower was from 12-4. DH stayed for a few minutes at the start to say ho to everyone and then came back around 3:15 to have cake and pack car.

DH at baby shower? Timing?

My DH already said he is going to do what he did for my Bridal Shower....He said hi the first 1/2 hour and then left and came back the last hour to help gather up the gifts.... I'm actually happy he won't stay longer cause I would feel like I couldn't mingle with everyone as much as I want to.

DH at baby shower? Timing?

My dh had to be there for the entire thing. I ended up in the hospital the day before my shower for 4 days. He said it was pure torture.

I would ask your dh if he really wants to be there for 2 hrs.

DH at baby shower? Timing?

I can understand towards the end when they are cutting cake, but not to open presents. That's like torture for them!

They(men) don't get excited like we do when it comes to that. My DH hates BRU. I remember doing my registry and he couldn't wait to leave the store. He is the best dad ever, but doesn't like that. He thinks "too feminine"

DH at baby shower? Timing?

For my bridal shower DH spent the first 1/2 hour there saying hello to people and then came back at the end to pack everything up. For my baby shower I think he was relieved when I suggested the idea of a guy's party at our house. They drank beer, ate hero and wings and watched sports. DH doesn't like being the center of attention so sitting there and opening gifts would have made him miserable, I mean, I don't even love having people stare at me for that long so I couldn't expect him to. It took almost 2 hours to open everything!

If your DH WANTS to go that is a whole other story but if he doesn't I wouldn't make him.

Re: DH at baby shower? Timing?

DH came to help set up and was going to come back at the end. We had less people than our min so he stayed and ate. He didnt help me with gifts though. I should have made him!

DH at baby shower? Timing?

It was initially supposed to be - just come for pics as guests arrived, then at cake/opening gifts.
Well he stayed for the whole thing! LOL! He actually had a good time... he was able to come and go as he pleased.
Some of his other guy friends stopped by the restaurant or came with their wives. We opened up a tab down in the restaurant and they guys had a blast...

DH at baby shower? Timing?

my came at the end - maybe 20 minutes before the party was over and chatted with guests and helped pack up the car. he was interested in gifts but there was no way he wanted to be surrounded by women listening to ohhh ahhhh after each gift was opened. he preferred seeing them from the comfort of our own home.
so personally i wouldnt have DH come...even if he thinks he wants to...once he is there he will prob regret his decision

Re: DH at baby shower? Timing?

Good post, as I was wondering the same thing. I don't know the exact times, but I would like for him to be there at the very least for the cake and take some pics, being that he has NO interest in opening gifts.

DH at baby shower? Timing?

I'm going to have him drop me off, say hi and then come back towards the end. I'm sure if I asked him to come to do gifts he would, but its not that important to me, and I don't think he's going to offer LOL

Re: DH at baby shower? Timing?

My DH doesn't feel strongly either way about opening gifts with me. He said he doesn't want to impose, but I feel like he's not because it's what I want. If he gave me a stronger opinion either way, I would go with that. He's very friendly with my friends anyhow, so it seems natural for him to be there. When my girlfriends come over he talks to them like crazy. Confusing right? I have literally had more confusion over the baby shower than planning my wedding, engagement party, etc. Chat Icon
