Talk to me about Hauppauge...
looking to move...I wanted Nassau, DH wants Suffolk (more land, less taxes)
Therefore we are trying to stay western suffolk to "meet in the middle"
Someone suggested Hauppauge and I know nothing about it..
how are the schools? community? shopping? etc!

Hauppauge has exceptional schools and very low property taxes. We seriously considered several homes in Hauppauge for these very reasons. It is accessible to parkways and lots of shopping nearby too!
We ended up buying a home in the next town over from Hauppauge and are very happy. We've been here about 2+ months now.
We are originally from Nassau too.

Talk to me about Hauppauge...
Great area and great schools. Property taxes are relatively low due to the industrial complex.
I looked in that area myself but the home prices were still high back then. I would live there in a heartbeat.

Talk to me about Hauppauge...
Very nice area. We are actually looking there for our next home!! I love the area. It's in a great central location accessible to parkways and LIE. Great schools and low property taxes!

My DH grew up in Smithtown (the Pines area) and went to Hauppauge HS. No complaints.
I have a coworker who lives in Hauppauge, but is zoned for Smithtown schools. She is very happy with the schools too.

I agree with PPs...nice area, good schools, low taxes. We looked there but ultimately moved elsewhere. Good luck!

I agree! DH and I used to rent an apartment in Nesconset and we were hoping to eventually buy in the Hauppauge/Smithtown area. Ultimately, we ended up buying in Nassau because DH's commute would be too far but I would have loved to live out there.

If you are home shopping, be aware that much of the area is on a high water table. There are some areas that flood regularly. Ask alot of questions about water in basements.

I am going to share this with my DH - We were looking in Dix Hills/Commack area...bec we have friends there...but it is good to have other neighborhoods to consider!
