Question about betas and rising numbers
I found out I was pregnant on 1/13. I got a positive on a First Response. I took another on 1/14 and it was darker, and I got a digital positive on 1/16.
On 1/20 I began spotting and by 1/21 I was bleeding consistent with my period. I called my OB and they sent me for bloodwork. My hcg was a 64. The nurse told me it was likely I was having a chemical pregnancy and sent me a script to have repeat bloodwork on 1/23. I just got a call from my OB's office stating that my number doubled to 100 something. I didn't even hear the exact number because I expected to hear it had gotten even lower. They asked me to come in tomorrow for an ultrasound.
I'm so confused. I'd resigned myself to the fact that this was a chemical pregnancy so I don't understand why my number is doubling. I don't have crazy cycles and the last time DH and I had sex was on New Year's Day, so it's not possible that I conceived any later than this. Why would my number be rising? What should I expect to find out at my ultrasound tomorrow? Any insight?
Thanks in advance ...

Question about betas and rising numbers
Bleeding doesnt mean a miscarriage. YOu could have a subchorionic hematoma cause the bleeding and still have a healthy pregnancy.
Regardless they arent going to see anything on a sono if your beta was only 100 on 1/23.

Re: Question about betas and rising numbers
I guess when I heard my hcg was a 64 at what would be 4w6d and I'd been bleeding, I agreed with my OB's nurse that this would not be a viable pregnancy, and I'm curious why the number is rising now.

Re: Question about betas and rising numbers
Unfortunately theres no way to know. Are they doing a third beta?
ETA: were you temping?
its a little presumptuous of a nurse to claim youre having a chemical based on 1 beta... unless it was really low... my 3 chemcials were under 10.

Re: Question about betas and rising numbers
No, no temping so I can't confirm the date I ovulated. The last time we had sex was New Year's Day and that is when I think I conceived.
I'm not sure if they will do a third beta at the office tomorrow. I would like them to, so I will probably insist on it.
I guess she believed that a 64 was way too low for how far along I was supposed to be. I almost fell over when they told me my number had doubled because it was the last thing I expected to hear.

I think that's a rush to say chemical. It's not like your beta was less than 20 where I would then be nervous. I would have them run another beta. Also I seriously doubt they will see anything on sonogram this early. Good Luck

Re: Question about betas and rising numbers
I agree with the other posters that it was presumptuous to say that you were having a chemical from just 1 beta. I had spotting early on in my pregnancy and now I'm 11 days away from meeting my little guy! Don't give up hope! I would hope they do another beta to see if it's still doubling appropriately. If you're less than 6w for the u/s tomorrow, you should see a gestational sac and yolk sac, but not much else. It's too early to see the baby or a heartbeat.
Good luck!!!
