CIO question

Did cry it out tonight (first night). It was too bad. (Doing progressive version).

My question is what do I do if DD wakes during the night??? CIO again? Start all over with minutes progression? (3,5,7,10,10,10...)

TIA!!!!

Re: CIO question

You pray that they don't wake upChat Icon
If she does, I would let her cry a little to see if she can fall back asleep on her own.
I wouldn't have the heart to let her cry too long.
Good luck, it's so hardChat Icon

Re: CIO question

How did it go?

If she does wake up again I would start with the minutes progression.

I meant to write it WASN'T TOO BAD in orig post! I went in after 3 min & never got to go in for 5 min check-in bc she kept quieting down & then evèntually fell asleep. Slept from 8:30pm - 7:30am! She woke up at 5:15 & cried for 5 sec, found her paci, put that back in & went right back to sleep. Overall it was much better then I had anticipated. I hope tonight goes even better!

I tried the progressive approach too. If she does wake up, I usually leave her and she goes back off within a min or two. If she stand up in her crib I go in, give her a hug and lay her back down and she goes back off on her own. If she didn't I would start the progression all over again.

She slept thru the night from 5 weeks (!!!) until around 6 months when she started waking up once or twice a night. I gave in & fed her a few times bc she was crying hard & that's what she wanted & I wanted sleep lol. So nowadays she would wake up one or twice & I would feed her & she'd go right back to sleep. I'd be up for 20 min at the most & it really wasn't bothering me but friends/dr recommended I do CIO now bc once she gets older it will be harder once she can totally pull herself up & stand in crib. I was dragging my feet with starting CIO but the last 2 nights she would not go to bed when I nursed her so I knew it was time.

Re: CIO question

Your DD is doing great! If she wakes in the middle of the night, leave her be for your normal progression (or longer - they're so sleepy in the middle of the night, they fall asleep on their own better than they do early in the evening). You want to completely cut out the notion that if she fusses, Mommy will come in and pay lots of attention to her.

Hope you have a good night tonight!

Re: CIO question

My problem tonight is that she fell asleep while I was feeding her & I know I'm supposed to put her down awake. I tried everything to keep her awake/wake her up (short of being guilty of shaken baby syndrome). Of course she was out cold no matter what I did. Chances are she could sleep through the night because she sometimes does anyway. I guess if she does wake up during the night CIO will happen then????? Urghhh this is hard lol Chat Icon
