Re: Question for experienced moms

I took a Bradley Method class that was fantastic. We also took a CPR class.

Re: Question for experienced moms

I rented the Laugh and Learn about childbirth. It wasn't helpful at all. I also took an infant CPR class through Baby Breaths (LI Families vendor) and I found that to be very informative.

Re: Question for experienced moms

Between the time and money I decided not to take any classes. My goal was to have a drug free birth. I did a lot of reading, watching videos online and having discussions about my desires with my DH and Dr. I went on to have the delivery I wanted. I felt adequately prepared.

Re: Question for experienced moms

I didnt get the chance to take any classes. my twins arrived at 30 weeks. the nurses at north shore were so great. They coached me through the entire drug free (missed the "window") birth or twins. Was I completely unprepared... yes. I felt guided the entire way through the births.

Re: Question for experienced moms

This is just my experience...but a friend of mine asked the same question a few months back on FB...I would say that the overwhelming majority never took a lamaze class or any others and we all felt we didn't need it anyway. For those attempting a drug-free birth maybe they are helpful? I don't know. I just know I've given birth twice and never needed anything more than what the nurses told me.

Re: Question for experienced moms

I took Lamaze, but it all went out the window when i was scheduled for c-section. Its interesting but you can get the same info from a video at your local library. I do however wish I took a CPR class

Re: Question for experienced moms

I took a one day lamaze class and thought it was great. The instructor was a L&D nurse and really gave us a lot of useful info about the hospital, we went on a tour of the hospital, she showed us all the equipment they used, and played out a bunch of scenarios. I'm glad I went and would do it again if it was my first time. It eased a lot of my anxiety about delivery.

Re: Question for experienced moms

I took Lamaze at north shore and I have to say it did help me. Even when I ended up with an emergency csection I used the breathing techniques I get me through the anxiety of having to have the surgery in the first place....I recommend it even if just to help u calm down

Re: Question for experienced moms

Somewhat informative but definatly geared more towards a natural (no drugs) birth which even though my husband insisted I was doing, I knew I wasn't. Ended up having a c-section anyway so didn't put to much use. Breastfeeding class was more beneficial for me.

Ditto word for word. I had ZERO desire to take a class like that. And after giving birth I see how right i was. The nurse told me how to push in 2 minutes

Re: Question for experienced moms

The class I took was a total waste of time, didn't teach me anything except how to deliver the placenta - and I am fairly sure the OB and nurses could have explained that anyway Chat Icon

I ended up with a scheduled c-section for my first, my 2nd was a VBAC and I was able to push her out without any special classes.

Question for experienced moms

I didn't take any classes, when it was time to push the nurse asked me if I knew where to push from, she showed me, baby was born quickly. The dr and nurses will guide you.
