Baby frustrated between letdowns - help!
DD is 3 months and has been latching and unlatching during the afternoon feedings and it is driving me nuts and she is hurting me. Just went the nip pain got better - we start to regress. In the mornings she is relaxed and milk is flowing same with late feedings but at 1pm and 5pm she is so frustrated.
I have tried holding her head on but don't want to hurt her. I give her a burp and will switch her left, right, left right but she just acts crazed. I know my left side is slow and not a big producer but still try to let her drink as long as she can but she is tearing me up. I am not lying when I say she will unlatch and cry 15 or more times ughh. Today I took her off...she cried but we took a break and tried again 30 min later. Also I seem to have 3-4 letdowns per side...the first one is fast and then it's downhill. Any advice?

Baby frustrated between letdowns - help!
Hmmm, maybe she's going through a growth spurt right now? I would maybe try feeding her a little bit sooner so that she's not super hungry and can keep herself calm. Also, try not to get stressed since that doesn't help with the letdowns, easier said than done. Sorry you're going through this.

Baby frustrated between letdowns - help!
Not sure if this is the cause but my babies would do the latch/unlatch thing if they were over hungry. I never fed on a strict schedule but it seems like you have one so maybe try feeding a bit before the normal time. If she's not so hungry she may not get so frustrated if the milk doesn't come as quickly as she'd like. Good luck!

Agreed. I never bf on a schedule. Whenever the baby looks hungry (or if I have to talk on the phone lol) I nurse her. DD2 was in the nicu so her feeding had to be scheduled, and she'd flip out.

Yes I have thought of this and that is WHY I do a schedule of sorts. DD takes super long naps during the day so I try and break them up wake her after the first 2-2.5 hours. (So 4 hours in between feedings). Otherwise she can sleep 3-4 hours which is 5-6 hrs in between a feeding which is too long. when she takes those long naps she just about skips a feeding and and then is even more crazed at night.

I would try to work on her schedule to get the feedings even closer during the day. At that age, DD was in a 2 hour cycle. She would eat (usually took 1/2 hour) then played for 1/2 hour and then napped for an hour. If you can get her to nap sooner and wake her sooner it may help. Maybe try to get her down to 3 hours. DD didn't go 4 hours regularly until she was over 7 months.
Another idea is to try to rock her a bit during feedings to soothe and distract her. This used to help keep DD on longer when she was on her less preferred side.

Re: Baby frustrated between letdowns - help!
One of my twins has been doing this lately- it's a nursing strike and soooooo incredibly frustrating but its a phase that will pass. He did this for a little over a week. I also feed on a schedule but my twins are supplemented with bottles- so when he did this I would have to give a bigger bottle after and then pump so I didn't lose the milk. He was also rejecting bottles and we learned he needed a faster flow nipple.
I agree with the others- it probably is because they are so hungry and just want the milk FAST! I also think it has to do with teething and the sucking hurting. Sometimes I could get him to latch by using the paci to calm him down and then quickly replacing with my nipple.
