EXPOST: from Parenting
Hi Ladies. Happy New Year to you all. I have been MIA for a few weeks to spend Christmas overseas with family. The day i was leaving we had the 20 week sono and was looking forward to starting the holidays in great spirits. However that didnt quiet happen. I am sorry for the essay but i am looking to see if anyone had any similar experiences with a happy outcome.
We had the sono and the tech said everything looked great and baby measuring on target etc. Then i waited for the doctor as usual for the final word. She came in and said they needed to look at something again. There are soft markers on the Intestines. She really frightened me with all the bad things it can be. She said that it can be a sign of downs. But with all my other tests she does not think it is as i am still only 1:10,000 with this marker. She said it could be Cystic Fibrosis but again my doc confirmed that i have been cleared for this. She said it could be an infection such as Toxoplasmosis etc. So i went to my doc and did the blood test asap to confirm or rule this out and Thankfully we got the all clear on that. She is telling me i need to be monitored once a month going forward which i do not mind as long as my baby is healthy and they are being proactive. My Doctor said that i should not be worried as this does not mean anything as the baby is still growing and all other tests etc are great. Anyone have anything similar happen?? I am trying not to worry and just enjoy this pregnancy but it is always on my mind. 18 weeks to go until i hope my healthy little bundle is in my arms.
I go back on the 21st for another sono and i hope all is good. Thanks ladies for letting me get this out.

I have no advice or experience as my 20 week appointment is this week. I hope everything works out for you, with all the tests coming back negative I would try to stay positive! Hugs and prayers for you!!!

Re: EXPOST: from Parenting
i know its hard, but listen to your doctor. if they are not concerned take that as a good sign and continue with the monthly tests. at my 20 week they saw a spot on the babys heart, but thankfully it was nothing. sending lots of prayers and hugs your way

Re: EXPOST: from Parenting
as PP poster said, I know its hard to not worry. I had soft markers of my little girls heart, and although they still show up on US, we did fetal echo etc..and Dr. said nothing to worry about. My Aunt who is also an L&D NP said they HAVE to tell us mommies of all of these "markers', but in reality one marker alone really doesn't mean much of anything. I do hope everything continues to go well for you and that frequent monitoring helps to put your mind at ease

I'm dealing with the exact same thing right now . A slight echogenic bowel. They tell me not to worry about it we are just monitoring it every few weeks by sonogram. Doctors didn't mention or test for an infection . Hope it makes you feel better that you aren't the only one .
Edit to add my risk of downs was also on the higher side but they said it wasn't elevated risk just high for being 26.

Re: EXPOST: from Parenting
I am so sorry you are dealing with this. We were told at our sono on Friday that we had choroid plexus cysts in the babies brain which can be markers for Edward's Syndrome. We have the same situation as you do with all of our tests coming back great and everything else looking perfect. My doctors have all told me to not worry about it and aren't sending me for further testing nor are they making me come for extra sonos. I can relate to how difficult it is to just trust that everything is ok when you hear the worst. I have no advice but just wanted you to know that you are not alone---if you need anything please FM me. I completely understand how you fear.

I think it's more common than not. Technology is not always the best thing. Good luck

I'm going through the exact same thing- echogenic bowel. I too have been cleared of infections and told my chances of downs is low, but DH and I opted to do the Maternity21 test to completely rule it out. For us, it will be peace of mind if it comes back ok. I hope we are both ok!!

Re: EXPOST: from Parenting
Thank you ladies for your responses. Mine hasn't mentioned the Maternity21 test either. I might ask him tomorrow about it. But he said i could get the amnio if i really wanted. But when we talked he siad there really is no need especially since it wont change anything with us. Sorry to hear it was still there. All the measurements with the baby are fine with me. I really do hope we all get the results we need and want.
