can you diagnose my son
the boy half of our twins has been keeping mommy and daddy up all night
i just wanted to know what you guys think this is
they turned 3 weeks on monday, during the day he is fine,he has had some tummy issues and we are on our 3rd formula but he seems to be ok now in regards to gas but still having issues with constipation
ok so past 4 nights between hours of 1am to 5 am..he is screaming, screaming all hell..nothing will console him,we tried it all food, burp, bath, swaddle, drive in car,etc
some days it was only from 1am to 3 am,one time 1 am to 5 am,it can vary
then he just stops and goes to sleep...i will say in between screams he will look at you and smile then just scream lol
would this be a witching hour? is he a colicky baby? is he just a newborn lol
thanks so much!

Did you try the gripe water? We have ever put chamomeal tea in bottle when baby had witching hour. If you don't think that is what it is, maybe it's the formula. How is he the rest of the day?

Re: can you diagnose my son
a couple of thoughts -
3 different formulas in 3 weeks might be a factor - did you switch at ped's suggestion? some say it's ok to switch whenever you want, others say you should let the baby adjust and give time to see a difference esp when they're so little (i was told the latter) but again I don't know your particular circumstance, just throwing it out there.
S. had a witching hour (or 3) when she was that little, prob until about 7 weeks old. Between 5-8pm if I recall. You may just be lucky enough to have it in the middle of the night.
I'm inclined to say if he's not like that at various points throughout the day, it's more behavioral (like a witching hour) than formula/tummy related. otherwise he'd be like that after every feeding, kwim?
I'm really just rambling at this point. In any event, they're both super cute

we have done gripe water,it helps, i do think his tummy has gotten better
i think it is just his thing he lieks to do at night bc other than that he is pretty happy

Re: can you diagnose my son
Sounds like a VERY ill-timed witching hour!
Do you have a swing? It seems to calm my girls while witching. That and a pacifier that they continuously spit out for THREE HOURS. Lol

Re: can you diagnose my son
It's probably a witching hour. My 1st DD would cry for 2-3 hours a day just because. Some babies just need to cry

Sounds like witching hr to me. The switch of formulas between the enfamil and similac shouldn't make a difference because they are similar. If the sensitive doesn't help I'd try the gentlease. It really helped DS gas issues. He was still colicky.

Re: can you diagnose my son
It could just be a witching hour. DD's was from 6pm-12am I think for the most part she just had to grow out of it but we tried a few things. - ventair bottles to prevent swallowing gas. - gas drops in her bottles (dr. recommended drops in every bottle) - gripe water when needed - frequent burping. - sleeping in a RNP - minimize nighttime stimulation, keep lights and sounds low.
They are so young and tiny I truly believe they just need time at that age. To adjust to the world and to let all their systems start working. Babies that young easily get over stimulated. GL

Re: can you diagnose my son
What is he sleeping in? Did you try having him sleep in something more upright? Swing, bouncy etc. my sister had similar issues with my nephew and sleeping more upright helped.

Re: can you diagnose my son
Does he sleep in something different from naps and bedtime? If he is sleeping in a swing or bouncy for naps, it sounds like reflux to me and the time kinda makes sense if they are laying down for bed.

Re: can you diagnose my son
Sounds like colic. Immature digestive system that causes severe gas pains and bloating. He will outgrow it eventually, but to make him feel better you can try Colief drops in the bottle - they sell them at CVS. I tried everything for my DD#2 who would cry day and night for 6 months. She did not have a milk intolerance like the doctor was inclined to surmise. At exactly 6 months she was completely fine. Good luck -- i hope yours gives you a break soon!

Sounds like witching hour. My dd had the same thing and my Dh and I were going insane! Look up newborn gas massages that kept my dd somewhat calm for a little bit and white noise

Re: can you diagnose my son
Yes def a witching hour ugh. I am here to say it will pass but may be rough for awhile. At 8 weeks we finally discovered Colic Calm and it helped tremendously. It is all natural and really helped DD. You can find it at CVS. Also we just held her alot, walked her around, etc. She outgrew this crazy stage by 9 weeks but still has her moments here and there. Her crazy time was 6-midnight which was a lil more tolerable than 1-3 but hang in there!!! Just know it isn't you or anything you are doing wrong and he will outgrow it!

ITA. Have you tried a white noise machine? Even turning on a hair dryer for the white noise might help!
