Induction question

I just had my 40-week appt. today and it looks like I'll be induced by the end of the week if I don't go naturally before then. The grandparents-to-be want to be in the waiting room when the baby arrives. How long can it all take from start til birth? Will the doctors give us updates on dilation so we don't have to call our parents to come it's closer to the real show time? Anything else I need to know?

Re: Induction question

do you have any progress? I think it varies so much. My SIL was just induced and delivered five hours later. I was induced and delivered three 1/2 days later!!

They should constantly give you updates so you can inform them. At every check, they told me where I was, what their estimates were etc. I would def not have them come when you go in.

GOOD LUCK AND SO EXCITING!!

Re: Induction question

I don't have any insight, but am in the same boat in regards to induction. As of today, still only 2cm with baby up high. I go back to OB on thurs, and they might induce me that night or the next day.

Induction question

My induction took 48 hours, and I have friends whose induction took just 4 hours. I think it totally depends how dilated you are and how you respond to the medication.

Re: Induction question

Mine was 30 hours (not including c-section). 27 hours until I was ready to push.

Induction question

My induction took 13 hrs. I arrived at the hospital at 6am, started pitocin around 8am, water was broke at 9:30, epidural around 11:30, DS came at 9:10pm.

I was examined periodically and was given an estimate of between 5-6pm by the Dr. The nurse examined me at 5 and said she estimated 9pm and was pretty close.

Re: Induction question

I agree that it really depends on your body, how "ready" that baby is to come out, how you react to the meds etc - everyone varies.
i started pitocin around 8am and delivered at 530pm. I was 13 days late though and actually woke at 4am that morning with contractions - so that baby was looking to come out lol
They will definitely monitor you & give you updates. You'll know when to call your family. It can be a long day.

Re: Induction question

I was induced at 7 am and had the baby at 11:44 at night. They check you to see what you are at constantly, so yes, you can wait to tell your parents to come up, we did.

I don't remember if the baby was still high, I don't think so. But you could drop tomorrow, you just never know.

I was induced with my 1st, and scheduled for induction with my 2nd, but went into labor on my own.
