Trying again/ seeing doctor after chemical

I had a chemical on Thursday and the ER dr. said to set up a follow up appointment with my OB. I called on friday and the receptionist said she would have to contact the dr. to see if she could squeeze me in and said she would call back. She never did, so I called back in the afternoon and everyone had gone home early. Chat Icon

They were closed all weekend so I'm going to call again today. I really don't want to have to go through the whole story on the phone again Chat Icon

So I guess my question is do you think they didn't call me back because they think the follow up isn't important? For those of you who have had a chemical, did you follow up with the doctor? What was the appointment like? Did they tell you to wait before trying again?

Re: Trying again/ seeing doctor after chemical

Chemical pregnancies are extremely common. In fact, most women don't even realize they are having a chemical because most happen before someone would even bother to test (if they were not TTC and obsessing over their cycle).

Emotionally, chemicals stink ... but physically, it's really not something you need immediate medical attention for. I would follow up with the dr office to check your beta to be sure it's back down to 0. They will probably also tell you to wait a month before trying again --- or may tell you not to wait at all ... every dr's office is different. Personally, I was told to wait a month.

eta: Just read your other post and saw your beta was negative at the hospital ... So really, there's nothing else to do. I'd just call your dr to see what they suggest as far as when to try again.

Once again I am sorryChat Icon If your hcg was at zero you should be able to TTC right away, but I would just double check with your ob/gyn. He/she may want to run a panel of bw just in case.

i had two chemicals. the first i was able to try right away (my beta was very low) the next cycle. the second i had to wait one cycle (the beta was a lot higher than the first). if it were me id prob try to touch base with the doctor, even just by phone, to see what they recommend, but its prob not entirely necessary to go in because unless he's going to do a miscarriage blood panel on you (which most OBs dont if you've only had one chemical) then theres nothing he can say or do for you at this point since your beta is already negative. Chat Icon good luck!

Re: Trying again/ seeing doctor after chemical

Thanks for your advice! I called my OB and talked to a nurse figuring I would just cancel my appointment and maybe ask a couple questions over the phone. Turns out they want me to come in after all. Chat Icon

Just when I was starting to put this behind me, it has to get dragged out some more.
