Commuting
Anyone else commuting into Manhattan? Just wanted to complain - it took 2.5 hours this morning. I hate asking people to get up but yesterday I started feeling light headed and needed to ask for a seat. I thought I could make it standing today, but someone offered about 30 minutes into the trip and I couldn't refuse. I hope tomorrow is easier... I don't want to waste days off since I missed all of last week.

Re: Commuting
Welcome to my club!! I take the train in every day for work and not once have they offered me a sit. They just look at me and then close their eyes.

Commuting
ugh, you're kidding - I haven't commuted since the storm and have been working from home. The agreement I made with my boss was that once power was restored to my house, I would start commuting again. Although we thankfully got power back this morning, she said I should just finish out the week at home. I commute to midtown from Babylon and I'm 35 wks right now. I've been assuming it will take 2-2.5 hrs for me - there's absolutely no way I can stand that long!! I feel for you ladies, I understand this sucks for everyone, but people should still give up seats for you!!

Re: Commuting
The LIRR is so packed tight with commuters - I don't think anyone even realizes I'm pregnant!

Commuting
It's awful! I take the E train in the morning; and luckily I get on at the first stop. But i have to take a bus to the train; and I have to sometimes wait 15-20 minutes for an empty bus to finally come; because NO one ever offers their seat on the bus! Coming home since I get on about 1/2 way down the line and one of the last stops in Manhattan I hardly ever get a seat! I will wait 20+ minutes and let 5 or 6 trains pass until one comes that is finally empty! Luckily I'm in Queens and I have the option of the Express Bus; so I've started taking that home at night. It's double the cost of the subway; but at least I get a seat and a comfortable ride home. Luckily I only have a few more weeks left. I start working from home at 38 weeks. Can't come soon enough!

I go into the city once a week and this is the first time since the storm. The trains are like cattle cars. I actually had a guy grunt and roll his eyes when I asked him if he could let me in so I could have the middle seat. People are awful.

Ditto. I let the people around me know and ask them to just be careful with their bags and stuff. I am barely showing, so people might not realize I am pregnant yet, but I try to make it known so people don't stand up against me.

OMG I hate that!! People get so annoyed when I ask to sit in the middle seat which means they're a litlte squished or have to move their bags! HELLO I'm 30 weeks pregnant; if I'm squishing you then get up and give me your seat!

Re: Commuting
I hear you! I think now that we're wearing winter coats it's less likely that people will our big bellies and offer us a seat.
I take the subway to work and I'm lucky to be the first stop on the local so I take that to work. But going home, I have to get onto a packed subway and stand every night. Last night a man (who was standing) noticed I was pregnant and offered to ask someone to give up their seat for me. I politely declined, but the offer just made me feel good.
My suggestion is to open your coat and stick out your belly, rub it, let people know you're pregnant! I mean, more often than not they will close their eyes and pretend to be asleep, but once in a while you'll find a nice stranger. And don't be afraid to ask for a seat if you don't feel well!
