Yet another reason I hate commuting to the city...

Seriously...what is wrong with people??!?!

December 13, 2007 -- A woman was seconds away from being run over by a subway train after a stranger shoved her onto the tracks at the Union Square station - but was saved by two heroes.
Suzanne Trotman, 38, suffered bruises to her legs and head after Tenesha Thompson allegedly pushed her onto the tracks of the Q line Monday evening. But she was otherwise OK, law-enforcement sources told The Post yesterday

With a train bearing down on her, the two anonymous heroes, a man and a woman, jumped down to the tracks and lifted the Brooklyn woman to safety.

The dazed Trotman, who estimated she'd been on the tracks for up to three minutes, realized what was happening when the Brooklyn-bound train was just 30 seconds from hitting her.

"I knew the train was coming, so I got up really quickly," she told The Post. "Good thing I didn't get knocked out."

All the while, one thought raced through her mind.

"I kept telling myself, 'I'm not going to die like this,' " said Trotman, the mother of a 13-year-old girl.

The two heroes managed to ma neuver her and themselves back onto the platform just as the train pulled in.

Thompson stepped aboard in a bid to escape, but witnesses held the doors open preventing the train from leaving, the sources said.

Another passenger ran up the stairs and found a cop, who came down and arrested Thompson, according to the sources.

Trotman, returning to Brooklyn from her job at a day-care center, said the terrifying incident started as "I was just looking [out from the platform] for the train and all of a sudden, I felt the person push me.

"I hit my head and I bruised my leg. She just pushed me. I don't have a clue why.

"I guess there are just crazy people out there."

Just before the attack, witnesses said Thompson, 24, of The Bronx, had been talking to no one in particular. She repeatedly said, "You don't know what she did to me."

Thompson was charged with reckless endangerment and assault and is locked up at Rikers Island awaiting a court date tomorrow.

Trotman has not been on the subway since, but plans never to stand close to the edge the next time she ventures down.

"I just want to thank all the people who helped me and saved my life," she said.

"You hear stories of things like this, but you don't think it can ever happen to you."

It's bad that it happened.

But Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to the two very unselfish people who helped her and didn't think twice. I think that says something GREAT about this city! There are twice as many good people as there are bad. One pushed her, but TWO saved her.

Re: Yet another reason I hate commuting to the city...

The woman who pushed her sounds a bit off from the description in the article.
This is part of the reason I would never stand close to the edge and look for the train when I ride on the subway, and I always tell DH not to do it either, even though he always does it. It won't make the train come any faster!
You just never knowwhat kind of crazy people are out there.

Thank goodness those two people were brave enough to save her, and no one was really hurt!

i agree, very terrifying, but we don't know enough about the woman who pushed her. if what they say is true, that she was talking to herself right before she pushed that woman, and was agitated, she could be emotionally disturbed.

interesting how she knew enough to get on the train to try and escape, though...

That's such a great way to look at it!

Thank goodness the woman is o.k. and that others blocked the crazy one from getting away so the cop could arrest her!

double-ditto.

However, I can honestly say I never fear getting pushed onto the tracks b/c I stand in the middle of the platform until the train is in the station, and the doors about to open.

I do the same thing! I lean my back against the wall and if no wall I always make sure I'm standing behind a crowd of people

The thing that bothers me is the charge..shouldn't it be attempted murder or manslaughter?? I usually stand behind a column when I wait.

that's true, but like you said, she got herself there and then tried to escape. IMO, anyone who does something like that is very disturbed regardless. KWIM?

i totally agree, i am just interested to hear all the facts of the story. there is such a thing now called Kendra's Law to try and prevent things like this from happening. if this woman had a history of mental illness, this could have been prevented.

like i said, i find it interesting that even if she WAS metnally disturbed, she knew enough to understand that what she did was wrong, so she tried to escape.
