Glider Question
We have a long narrow room for the nursery...and lots of furniture...with not a lot of space. I am trying to make space in a corner for a glider which is making everything else seem kind of crammed. There would be more space to space out the furniture if we skipped the glider.
So my question is....how many of you passed on a glider? For those that did or did not get one, do you think it was an absolute must have necessity?

Re: Glider Question
I got one, but I just wanted to say that I think it kinda is necessary. You're gonna want somewhere to sit if the baby is having a bad night etc... But I did just get a cheap one off Craigslist (perfect condition), and I'll get rid of it when I feel it's unnecessary. So although you don't have much space, I'd say get it bc it's not like it will be a permanent fixture in the room.

Re: Glider Question
For me, a glider was necessary. Especially late night when he needed to be rocked. I still use it with him at 3, only now we sit side by side and rock before he goes to bed. I really only needed a crib, a dresser (with changing pad on top) and a glider. That was it!

Glider Question
All we will have for furniture is a crib, 3 drawer dresser that will be used as a changing table. N we got a tall skinny cabinet almost like a linen closet for extra storage. The problem is we have my dresser in there and a small piece leftover from a desk we disassembled. Our bedroom is full and there is no more extra spec in the living room really. We just need ab bigger place and problem solved!!!! Lol

Re: Glider Question
We have a small nursery also and I was gonna skip the glider but my sister gave me hers so I made it fit...mine sits in front of the closet so every time I go into the closet I have to move it but I'm hoping it's worth it for in the middle of the night

Re: Glider Question
We live in an apt and didn't have a ton of space. I recognize the importance of the glider but just didn't want to spend a ton of money on it if we ended up not using it.
So I luckily found an almost brand new one on Craigslist for 60 bucks!!! So now I don't feel so bad if we end up not using it a lot!

Glider Question
We didn't get one but now that DD is here we know it's necessary. We have a recliner in another bedroom but we want a chair in her room.

Re: Glider Question
For me, I can't imagine NOT having my glider and ottoman. I use the heck out of that thing and still do.........my DD is 4!!
I BF her in the glider, soothed her to sleep, some nights I even fell asleep in it, and as she got older it became part of our nightly routine......we cuddled together in the glider and read which we still do to this day.
Can you get by without one? Of course but I REALLY love mine and think it was worth every penny. I know some people who have one and never sit in it. Just depends on the person.

Re: Glider Question
We just put ours together last night and I can already see how invaluable it will be. I would suggest getting one that doesn't recline (you have to keep it pulled out pretty far from the wall) and doesn't have an ottoman. These two features on ours make it take up a lot of space.

Re: Glider Question
We're not getting a glider. We live in a 1-bedroom and so the baby will be sleeping in our room and his furniture will be in the living room until we move next fall. Space is already at a premium so I'm not about to cram another chair into our apt. I know plenty of "city dwellers" who were fine without a glider. Beds, chairs, couches and recliner worked just as well. I think it's better to be comfortable with the amount of furniture, rather than cramped.

Glider Question
Ok so it seems like it is an important thing. Maybe the room will just have to be crammped up for a little while until we can move it out.

Glider Question
We weren't going to get one because our nursery is small, but my MIL got us one anyway and now that DD is here I'm glad we have it. It really comes in handy when she's crying and nothing else seems to calm her down.

Re: Glider Question
I had no idea how important it would be, I hate to say. We got one just becuase it seemed like the thing to do and it looked nice in the nursery. Let me tell you, DD is 19 months and we use that thing several times a day. I can't imagine not having it. If you can squeeze it in, I would really recommend getting one.

Re: Glider Question
It depends on you and the baby. We got a really nice recliner because I found the gliders pricey and uncomfortable and I wanted something I could keep in the living room if the time came.
We used it a few times in the beginning but DD has been sleeping through the night since 6 weeks and I feed her in the kitchen or living room during the day.

Re: Glider Question
Can you put the glider in your room? Mine is 5 years old and it is still used daily. We went with an upholstered chair and it was a great purchase.

Re: Glider Question
Looks like I'm in the minority here, but I skipped on the glider & never missed it (DS is 11 months now). Most feedings were done on the couch (recliner). I have a rocking chair, but barely used it. You will get by just fine if you decide to skip the glider.
