Re: How long did it take you to find your home
We started going to open houses last summer (11') knowing we weren't ready to seriously look but wanted to get an idea of what was out there and what we wanted.
We actively started to look in January, had an accepted offer on house #1 within 3 weeks which fell through. We then had an accepted offer on our current home about a month and a half later and then closed in May.
All I can say is don't rush the process. However, if you see a house that "feels like home" for you don't sleep on it either. I've realized there's a nice middle ground that needs to be found during the process.
Enjoy!

Re: How long did it take you to find your home
We saw a good 40-50 houses before we found "the one" - this includes houses we thought were the one, offers fell through, etc. We made sure not to rush anything, and are glad it took us a good few months to find "the one" that we're currently in contract with. I also know people that saw one home and that was that, so really depends. But if you find a home that meets all of your needs for the most part and "feels right" - then go for it. The feeling right part took us a while and we're so happy we took time to find the home of our dreams.
Goodluck!!!

Re: How long did it take you to find your home
Personally, we looked casually for awhile at open houses before we were truly ready. Once we decided to buy (after I got pregnant), we actively looked for about 6 weeks. We probably saw 30-40 houses.
Speaking from professional experience, I think it takes the average buyer 1-2 months to find a house. But that means -- ready, willing, and able buyers, who are financially ready and personally motivated. Most people have an area they want to be in and a certain price point, and once they start looking, they basically figure out what type of house they can afford and choose the best house among them. Sometimes, I have people who can't find anything, and they realize they need to (i) up their price, (ii) change their area of focus, (iii) reconsider their criteria (e.g., I had a buyer -- a single woman - who looked for a house for quite awhile, and it never felt quite right, so she ultimately decided to buy a condo... once she made that decision, she purchased a condo quickly!)
Good luck and have fun with your search! It should be a fun process.

Re: How long did it take you to find your home
We looked casually for 3 months. This was invaluable.
We got to see what we liked, and didnt, What we wanted, must haves, and what look out for.
We saw all kind of houses. Different "touches". Finishes. We saw how kitchens were set up. How small living rooms looked to larger "great rooms". Open floor plans, closed floor plans. We saw house houses "flowed". How close the kitchen was to the garage. How far a walk was it to the laundry room.
Invaluable.
When we knew we were ready, like to BUY, it took us 2 months.

How long did it take you to find your home
Looked casually for a couple of months - open houses only.
Then got a realtor and from there I'd say about 3 months. I believe we started end of May-beginning June and went into contract in Mid-August.

Re: How long did it take you to find your home
It took us a little over two months of actively looking before we went into contract. But we were very serious about buying, we had very specific neighborhoods we were considering, and we had a specific budget. Put all of these factors together and we had a very small pool of potential homes to choose from.
We were fortunate to find a home we loved. If we hadn't, I honestly don't know if we would have waited for new homes to come on the market or just settled for something that was "good enough".

We were "Stalking neighborhoods" as we called it for about 1 year. Went to some open houses, etc.
When we got serious, we got an agent and it took us about 4 months of serious looking.

How long did it take you to find your home
We got lucky and it only took about 3 mos for us to find a house we liked. I did a LOT of searching online though in order to narrow down our choices for open house visits.

How long did it take you to find your home
It took us 4 months. We were looking in 2009 when they were giving out the tax credit. Great houses were being scooped up so quickly.

How long did it take you to find your home
We have been looking since early August. We have put offers in on two houses. One offer was accepted but fell through...we put an offer on a property today...it is a process we have looked at about 30 houses and have a really good idea of what we are looking for in a house.

Re: How long did it take you to find your home
About a month, maybe. We saw about 10 houses. Ours was like the 7th. We saw a few others after we saw ours to be sure then went back to see ours for a second time and put in an offer the next day. We were basically looking only at high ranches and splits in a few towns though so we were already narrowed down to what we wanted. We saw 6 houses the first night looking and all but 2 were crap but the re agent was still getting a feeling for what we were looking for.

Re: How long did it take you to find your home
Thanks!!! We put in an offer today on an house, we walked in, and fell in love! We knew exactly what we wanted, where we wanted and what we wanted to spend. Before actively looking I spent hours on MLSLI looking at houses. I knew what was out there. We are not in the school district we loved, but we are still in one that is a second choice.
The funny thing is the house that we put the offer in on, is a cape, something we didn't want at all!! That's how I know this is the one :)
I am sooo excited!!!

Re: How long did it take you to find your home
about three weeks of steady looking...
we would narrow down A TON online - so, i searched online for a couple of months, then - when we were ready to start offering and making a move, we went with a real estate agent and it was about three weeks of appointments seeing the places we wanted to see in person. then, we found 'the one' and put the offer in, which was accepted.
