Initials...

DH and I were pretty much set on Brennan John as the name for our LO and then the other day he said that he's concerned he will get picked on for having the initials "BJ."

The man must have seriously gotten picked on as a kid for his name because I have never heard anyone stress about their kid being picked on for a name so much!

I really don't think it's going to be a problem. How many little kids use their middle name and who is picking on people as an adult for their initials??? Would this concern you? I think he's nuts.

My BIL goes by BJ. Yes he was picked on at school but at almost 35 he is still going by it and really doesn't care. Unless you give him that nickname, he won't go by it.

Re: Initials...

Just make sure people know not to call him BJ.
We're naming DS Brian Jr. but I made sure to tell everyone he will not be called BJ!

Ang, I could strangle him, he has a reason for not liking EVERYTHING I suggest.

I will tell ppl not to call him that when he is little but he can decide what he wants when he is older. Personally I don't think it's terrible, I wouldn't call I'm that but I just think of BJ Novak from The Office.

I don't think its bad.
Besides... you know the middle name DH wants us to use so god help our child if I am too drugged up and he signs the paperwork! We still fight over this EVERYDAY! And I am amazed at how much support he is getting from our friends (not so much from family!)

I keep debating a post about it, but people will think we/I am nuts!

Initials...

My sons first two initials start with b j. We never gave it a second thought. How many kids will even know his middle name? I teach at a hs. And I have no clue what my students middle names are unless they volunteer that info... It isn't like we are choosing to give him bj as a nickname...

Re: Initials...

I don't think it's a huge deal. DH had a student who's first name was pronounced Lay Me. No one bothered her, so I think your son is safe.

FTR, kids can pick on anything if they want to!

Growing up I had a friend named Brian James, and everyone called him Beege. Never even thought about the BJ thing, so def dont think it's a big deal. Having those initials wouldnt stop me from using a name I loved.

i dont think it would bother me...but i will say, my initials are PJ and my family never called me that...however a classmate of mine found out my middle name at some point in school and even since then people call me PJ...so there is definitely a possibility people will call him BJ
