Anyone not having a shower for their first?
I know I'm not having a shower. My parents are deceased and I'm not close to my half sister. I don't even really want once since my bridal shower was a disaster. Dh wants to throw me one but I will be really pissed if he does. We are in the process of buying and gutting a house and I don't want him spending our money on a party, I'd rather spend it on the baby. I'm creating a registry bc I know my friends will buy me something, it's what we do in our group. Am I wrong?

no not wrong at all....but maybe consider a small get together in your new house if possible? just with heroes and salads which is not too expensive at all? and you can kill two birds with one stone, invite people over to see the new house and celebrate the baby? if not i seriously think there's nothing wrong with having nothing

I'm not having a shower for religious reasons. In the Jewish faith, you don't celebrate until after the birth. Traditionally, we don't even have anything for the baby in the house until s/he is born.
I'm still registering, though, since people will purchase gifts for us...and I'd rather get what we want and not random things.

I'm not having a shower. My family just doesn't do them. I don't know if it's an Italian thing, or just my family. But I still registered because people will still want to buy me some things - just not a formal party to open it all at!

thats really sweet your dh wants to throw one...... with my son I was too stressed from my mom, so I stopped the shower my mom wanted to plan - everything I didn't like..... I ended up having a sprinkle of 5 people from dh's family, and I then missed a mini work shower because my son came early(which also would have been early for the date my parents wanted to have too)......
this pregnancy I felt like i really wanted a big party but poor dh wouldn't have had alot of people to invite...... my boss ended up having alot of my people at a pizza shower at work it was great.

I did not have one with my first. I am just not a fan of showers/being the center of attention. So no, I don't think you're wrong at all!

Same situation. Family doesn't do them (I'm Greek). I think they'd rather celebrate after the baby is born...

Not all Italians!  I'm 100% Italian and they started having baby showers back in the 80's when my mom and aunts were pregnant with me and my cousins. My Grandmother and Great Aunts who all came over from Italy love baby showers!! It really varies from family to family.
That being said there is nothing wrong with not wanting a shower!! I know people who just didn't want them because they felt it was a bad time or for sentimental reasons and other people who said their families didn't believe in them. If you don't want one there is nothing wrong with it, it is totally up to you!
But since you are moving into a new home you could have a housewarming/baby greeting party after your LO comes and you are all settled. It will give you a chance to have everyone see your new place that you're working so hard on and meet your LO at the same time!

Ditto for me with the shower, however we will be setting up the nursery pre-baby. I just didnt want to deal with the stress of doing that in the city with a newborn.
We'll also be having a Jewish baby naming ceremony around 4 months so people can meet her.

I'm Italian as well and I am having a shower. However, my mom is against them and would rather celebrate after the baby is born, but since she knows i want one before the baby arrives, she will give me one prior to the birth. DH's family doesn't do them either. I know that neither od my SIL's had them

i think are being very smart! i am not having a shower either, but i will be registering anyone. i prefer that if people want to give a gift they give me something i need/want instead of something they decided to pick up. i wont be advertising that im registered or anything, but close friends and fmaily will know and i assume word of mouth will get around
