painting question
so I will be painting our nursery this weekend.
i hope I am doing this in the best order.
we currently have carpet down but that will be coming up and we will be refiishing the hardwood. I should paint first, before the carpet comes up - correct? Also, ceiling or walls first? I assume ceiling?
paint ceiling paint walls take up carpet refinish hardwoods touch up
correct order?

painting question
How long are you going between painting the walls and floor refinishing? I was told that it takes paint 30 days to "set" so if you refinish the floors before that you may get dust drying into the paint.
I'd do: Paint ceiling Take up carpet Finish hardwoods Paint walls (with drop cloths!!) Touch up

Re: painting question
We had our room professionally painted before we moved in and there was the original green carpet from when the house was built in the fifties. We had the painter come in before we took out the carpet because if any got on the floor it wouldn't matter. Well, that was a dumb idea because there is a small strip around the base trim that is not painted because he could only go to the carpet line and it wasn't close enough to the floor and it looks so bad because the original trim color was brown and we had it painted white. Now we have to go back and paint the bottom but it's going to be so hard since its so close to the floor,I don't want to get any on the floor.

painting question
I had the same question - paint first or floors first. Still not sure if there is a "right" answer (the responses I got were split about 50-50), but definitely take the carpets out first, so the paint can go all the way down to the floor.

Re: painting question
ugh now I am totally confused. there is molding that is above the carpet so that would hide any gap between paint and hardwood if we painted before we took the carpet out.
maybe we sould just take the carpet out, paint, then they refinish? they are going to sand anyway so even if by some chance a bit of paint got on the floor, sanding would take care of it right?

Re: painting question
Paint ceiling first, redo floors, let cure paint walls and then base molding.

painting question
I painted my entire house and if you are getting rid of the carpet I woudl do it this way. Ceilings Walls Pull up carpet (but be carefule not to scape walls) refinish floors paint base and trim
Why do walls after floor and use drop cloths when you can just use the carpet as drop cloths.

We called 5 flooring companies to get quotes on refinishing and they ALL recommended doing the floors before painting. I figured they would know best since they do this every day! And no benefit to them to tell me to paint second.

Re: painting question
I painted my walls before refinishing my hardwood floors and it was a mistake. A little bit of the floor stain got on the molding in some areas and then had to be retouched. I would paint after the floors are done.

Re: painting question
my husband called the company that is doing to refinishing and they said 100% do the paint first. Just make sure we take of any base moldings and there will be no issue thanks all!

Floors first, then paint. Walls can get splattered on when floors are being done, or banged up from the equipment.

Re: painting question
good question cause i have to do the same thing paint, take carept out and refinish floor.
Someone recommended to me either way to try to cover the walls the best you can before they refisnih the floors cause then you wont have to clean as much dust off them when they are done!
