Destroyed my back yard and there is NO turning back

I'm so upset I just can't think about anything else =( Sorry if this is long and pointless my heart is just a bit heavy and I need to share my thoughts!

OUr backyard was full of really really tall pine trees.. well over 50 feet, there were about 25 of them and along the front of the trees there were bushes and other shubbrery that the previous owner had turned in to a nice park like setting. The big trees also created a privacy screen from the office building behind our house and northern boulevard (we are two blocks in from Northern Boulevard)

We decided to cut down the trees because the pine trees contsnatly made a mess in the back and clogged our gutters and the limbs from the trees were grown into the cables/phone wires etc going through our backyard.. Plus the trees were taking up a lot of space in our not that big backyard and not leaving much room for a swing set, sandbox etc, which we would like to set up for our baby girl as she gets older. It all made perfectly logical sense.. until the actual destruction began!!!

My backyard looks like a complete mess and although we plan to put down grass and arbovites (sp?) along the back fence where the last row of trees were..I feel like the building behind us now stands out like a soar thumb and we have zero privacy and can now even see parts of northern boulevard.. and although we get a lot more sun now we have NO shade in our backyard.

Anyway there is no turning back now and my husband promises that I will love it when we are done and everything re planted - but - I want to cry ever two seconds.. I feel like I am going through a grieving process ..which sounds silly but that is what these emotuions feel like.

Never underestimate the stress level of home improvement projects! We finished our basement last year and I barely survived that! Can't imagine tackling a project that I would have to deal with/see every day!

Arbovitaes will be great! We removed a huge a$$ pine that was making a mess. We initially missed it but boy do I not miss the mess. It certainly is a change but when the arborvitae mature you will have little to no mess. They get big!

I would suggest planting something called a Leyland Cypress. Grows REALLY fast, grow about 25 feet tall and does not drop needles like Pines. I know it feels like a mess now but you had to start somewhere to start fresh, kwiM?

It's okay. It's just temporary!! It will look great when it's done!

I was just going to suggest the same thing. Leyland Cypresses grow very fast and they're bushier than Arborvites. I personally prefer the look of them but that really depends on your taste. If I were looking for privacy I would opt for the Leyland's because they take up more space and are much fuller.

I'm sure it will be gorgeous once you're done! Chat Icon

If it makes you feel better, we are in a similar situation.

DH totally dug up our entire backyard earlier this summer with the intention of putting in a new patio, yet, because of this lovely little thing called time, he hasn't gotten to it yet.

Last weekend we had a BBQ and he set up a bunch of wooden boards and one of those pop-up tent things people tail gate with.

I felt like we were on the Honey Boo Boo show. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

There's a huge mound of dirt in my backyard that already has weeds growing in it. Chat Icon

Thank goodness we have a fence so you can't see this from the street.

My neighbors have already told him he's out of his mind trying to do this work by himself. It's what he does for a living though, so you know.......
