Re: Whats so great about Disney??
DH and I are not amusement park people. We both never went to ANY amusement together or separately in our young adult life. Pre-kids I was much more into extravagant international travel.
We took the boys earlier this year and had a wonderful time. We just booked our second disney trip this year for december. We like it for many reasons - short flight ranks first on our list coupled with uber kid friendly everything. It is also a relatively cheap vacation compared to international travel.
I don't understand adults who go sans kids. I would rather go elsewhere but it is heaven for little ones - characters, shows, parades, rides, pools, food, etc. etc.

Re: Whats so great about Disney??
We just got back LITERALLY early this morning.....AWAZING!
Loved everything about the place.
We were even lucky enough to be the "opening family" our 1st morning there.
I wanted to see & do everything & felt like I was the kid who went 30 years ago! I cried the last day on rides & when I said good bye to the castle. We can't wait to return!!!!

Re: Whats so great about Disney??
I LOVE Disney. I've been three times before, once when I was in 4th grade, once in 9th grade, and then the last time when I was 25. I can't wait to go again.
My DH has never been (well, that's KIND of a lie...he played in a baseball tournament in Orlando and they spent a couple hours in MGM...which is in my opinion the worst of all the parks) so I'm dying to go together somewhat soon. I want to go before we have kids, so we can experience it together.
I honestly think Disney is overall such a clean, joyous, fun place to be. The last time I went I was with my 5 year old niece and we literally skipped all over the park. And it's not just kiddie-ish -- there's plenty of adult stuff, too!

Re: Whats so great about Disney??
I am in the "I don't get it" camp. I went once as a kid, and I didn't even love it then. I don't really like "attractions" on vacation. We went to Maine every year and that was more my favorite vacation-no strangers, no schedules, just chilling out, eating and relaxing. My DH and I like to be more or less alone on vacation, and the idea of a character in my face at brunch or parades, sounds horrible to me.
My DH has said that when we have kids we would go, but I could never imagine just him and I going. There are lots of places I would go before Disney.

I'd love to know. Been as a child and as an adult and had the same reaction to it. Different strokes and all that. What I think a great vacation is may not be to everyones taste either.
ETA: I still REALLY wish they would give the Disney questions a subforum considering how often the same questions are asked over and over.
I agree with the subforum. I came on here for vacation ideas and all I see is Disney posts. That's what actually prompted my question. Seems like so many people love it there.
Amen amen! I barely glance over here anymore because 1. We don't have kids 2. We are not Disney-loving adults

Whats so great about Disney??
Not a Disney person myself - would never choose to go there if we didn't have our DD. That being said, we just went and had a great time. I loved seeing how happy she was to meet the princesses and characters she loves. I loved drinking through Epcot lol. I did not love the crowds of people or ridiculous prices for everything, but that is to be expected. We stayed off site and I'm glad we did. We didn't feel like we had to do something Disney every second. Ill go back again for her, not me - I'd rather be on a beach or in Europe, or both!

You're barking up the wrong tree, LOL. One, we book more than Disney vacations and two, we have no control over the makeup of LIF.
Though if you look at the first page of Travel & Vacations right now, 4 threads are about Disney and 21 aren't. Not sure that constitutes a need for a separate forum but again, not my call.

Like Kim just said, there aren't all that many Disney threads. However, it SEEMS like there are more than there are because they are the more active threads so they're always at the top.
I've said this before, but make the boards what you want them to be. If you have a travel question, post it. People DO answer non Disney travel questions.
I'm not crazy about the idea of a separate forum because I think there are too many forums as it is but it really wouldn't be a big deal either way. I would happily visit both.

Re: Whats so great about Disney??
I have to say I like having them all together. While we do go to disney and I have fun helping others plan. We also go on cruises and to other places. I like that there is some variety and I get some new ideas from reading the threads. The disney threads just end up on top bc they are the threads that most people have some knowledge of and can respond. I put up a thread about Washington DC hotels not long ago but got no real responses. I don't think the disney thread eclipsed it. I doubt any more people would have responded if there was a separate disney board.

Re: Whats so great about Disney??
I have been lucky to see over a hundred countries and counting BUT I still get very excited when visiting Disney!! Even as a single adult I did. Now that I have children it is even more special...
I dont know what it is (maybe the familiar characters, variety in scenery, the best staff I come across every visit) but I find it revigorates something within me.

Re: Whats so great about Disney??
We just got back from 4 days there and honestly, I cant answer your question. It was fun, clean and nice but the craze of it all??? No idea! It was crowded and the whole time you felt like you were just an open wallet. Every turn was another food or souvenier shop. I thought I would see what all the fuss was about this time as a parent, nope. I hope DS enjoyed it and remembers it because right now, I have no plans on going back.

Re: Whats so great about Disney??
it's a happy place. that's the only way i can describe it.
its not like you are traveling to a beautiful land and sightseeing and exploring cultures - because it is QUITE the opposite of that.
but it does have that happy-go-lucky, magical disney aura about the place.
i must say, not everytime i went i was always happy (yes, it is frustrating to pay tons of money and wait in super long lines, especially when its super hot out and you just want to get in airconditioning!), but for the most part its a happy place.
the last time i went was the winter...lines were short, got a great deal, and we were on the disney meal plan. it was one of the most carefree trips we have taken. i'm not sure if i can ever go back during the summer time and have that experience. i think i am a winter/disney convert!

Re: Whats so great about Disney??
We are not Disney people. We both went as kids, but we just don't get excited about it...our kids don't that much either (we'll see about DD though)
The thought of being "stuck" in the middle of Florida swampland is not appealing to me, BUT we like to do Disneyland for 2-3 days and pair it with other trips. It works out better for us. The kids get a little Disney (although they would rather spend the entire time at the Lego store - but they didn't like Legoland either) and we don't get overload.
