When they only go to magic kingdom and Epcot?

Was reading on another board how it's a must for young kids in strollers and how you can just hop on and not have to close up strollers like you would on a bus but I don't understand how convenient it is if you go to more than magic kingdom and epcot?

I think a lot of people with toddlers hit mk the most and sometimes not hs at all. That's the feeling I got from poking around some Disney forums.

I prefer the Boardwalk, Beach Club or Yacht Club. You can take the boat to Hollywood Studios, and walk or take the boat to Epcot. And if you have park hopper tickets, you can walk through Epcot and get on the monorail to Magic Kingdom Chat Icon

1. I think some of it's nostalgia (Poly and Contemporary were two of the original 3 onsite places to stay - along with Ft Wilderness).

2. Disney hypes up the monorail.

3. It's "cooler" than going by bus - even DH likes it better.

4. It used to be unique to Disney - now they have them in airports, etc., though.

As someone who doesn't travel with children, I sometimes wish they would go back to the days when you couldn't bring a stroller on the monorail or if you did, it had to be folded up! Chat Icon

Re: Why do people rave about the covenience of monorail resorts when..

We spend the majority of the week at MK and EPCOT. We only do one morning at HS and one morning at AK. So we only have to do buses for 2 mornings. Anywhere else we would have had to do 7 or 8 days of buses 2x a day. Keep in mind that we do a hotel break every single day so any other hotel would mean 4 bus trips a day. With 2 under 3 on our last trip it was so easy to just wheel the stroller onto the ferry or monorail and not wake them up. One night the monorail was hit by lightning and shut down so we had to bus it back from EPCOT to the poly. I watched parents in other lines to other hotels (as well as to ours) waking their kids up ( although they tried not to) unpacking and folding the stroller trying to negotiate a cranky or sleeping toddler or infant and bags and a stroller on a standing room only bus.

I don't think you HAVE to stay on the monorail but MK and EPCOT are good parks for young ones and it takes some stress off the parents if you can afford to do it. It is more for the parents convenience (although the kids love riding the "train".

Re: Why do people rave about the covenience of monorail resorts when..

I stayed in the Poly just a few mths back for that reason, stroller convenience AND quick trip to MK. For me, it's the best choice b/c MK is my favorite park and was DDs favorite park as well. But even when I didn't have a child, I always liked being close to the MK....we take quick runs there at night for a snack or a parade or fireworks, etc. None of the other parks have this draw for me....

just this past trip DD fell asleep in our hotel room and we were sooo bored. It was only 8pm and I was in Disney and didn't want my night to end! So we put her in the stroller and went to the MK....she slept the whole time. We could not have done ANYTHING other than stay at our hotel had we not been on the monorail line, kwim?

Maybe when DD gets much older we will try a resort closer to Epcot (Beach or Yayht club). But for now, we are MK hotels only.

We spend the majority of our time at the MK and Epcot. The convenience of staying on the monorail would be awesome! Too bad they have pretty much priced us out of staying at the resorts on it though!

I think people, esp with little kids spend the most time at MK. I know I will spend a good 4+ days at MK and EPCOT. On my last trip I think I was at MK for a least part of the time on 5 of 8 days. AK and DHS can both be done in a day.

I like BC/YC and Boardwalk too for proximity to EPCOT and DHS. GREAT for dining!

The monorail also goes to some of the most popular dining - 'Ohana, Kona, Chef Mickey's, California Grill, 1900 PF.

We're psyched to stay on the monorail this time. All we can thinking about is how nice it will be to walk (Contemporary) back from the Halloween Party!

We love the monorail resorts because the bus service at times can be horrendous. From Beach and Yacht club we once waited every day for over 45 min to go to ANY resort! We have young kids so MK and Epcot are usually where we spend time anyway, with maybe just one day at AK and one at HS. We also love Wilderness Lodge b/c kids loved taking boat (although sometimes we had long waits for that too--especially if you just miss one!)

LOL. We kept saying, oh, this is bad. We are bad parents. But we still watched the fireworks and ate cake on Main st. LOL. I wished so badly DD would be awake but she just could not stay up that late.

We just went to WDW w/our 17 month old (his first time). we stayed at BLT (DVC members) which uses the Contemporary's monorail stop. And it was so easy and convenient to go to MK and EPCOT (even pre kids). Like a PP said, we go there most often anyway. We did take busses, and they were even more horrible than usual. Can't wait until we bring his car seat nad start renting a car/driving down!!
